The Cherries head on the long trip to Newcastle this weekend with recent history on their side. In the Premier League, Bournemouth boast an impressive record at St James' Park, so can they repeat some previous joy once again?

Cherries recent record vs Newcastle United

For most sides a Premier League away fixture at Newcastle is not met with much expectation. The Geordie faithful are known to make St James' Park an intimidating place for any side to visit, with even the most elite clubs struggling to leave Tyneside with all the three points. Bournemouth have managed to be somewhat of a 'bogey side' for Newcastle however, with their recent record at St James' Park meaning they'll head into this weekend's fixture with belief, rather than fear.

Bournemouth's Impressive Record On Tyneside

The Cherries' first visit to Newcastle in a Premier League fixture was back in 2016, where an impressive victory for the away side ended in the then Newcastle manager Steve McClaren, ultimately losing his job. Both Joshua King and Charlie Daniels were on the scoresheet for Bournemouth in a relatively comfortable 3-1 victory for the visitors, in the club's first Premier League campaign.

The following season in 2017, Bournemouth once again left St James' Park with a valuable three points, courtesy of a late Steve Cook header. A few sticky seasons for the Cherries then followed resulting in relegation from the Premier League, but when they returned to the top flight, they enhanced an impressive record on Tyneside.

Under Gary O'Neil in 2022, Bournemouth travelled to Newcastle in hope rather than expectation. But a well worked Philip Billing goal sent the Cherries on their way to a crucial point on the road, only an Isak penalty prevented O'Neil's men heading back to the South Coast with all three points.

2024 and again a late goal from the hosts prevented the Cherries leaving the north with a win, but once again it was a superb display and point for Bournemouth. Strikes from frontmen Dom Solanke and Antoine Semenyo looked to have given the visitors the win, only for former cherry Matt Ritchie to pop up in stoppage time to mean the points were shared.

The best was yet to come for the Cherries though, last season's thumping 4-1 victory at St James' Park being arguably one of Bournemouth's most impressive Premier League victories to date.

Despite Newcastle and Isak being in fine form, the Cherries rocked up to Newcastle and simply blew them away, with Milos Kerkez wrapping up the victory following a stunning Justin Kluivert hat trick.

It was some performance, and a performance that will be fondly in the memory of all Cherries fans ahead of this weekend's trip up north. They'll once again arrive at St James' Park full of belief rather than fear.
