Luis Sinisterra Leaves Bournemouth as Cruzeiro Trigger Buy Clause

AFC Bournemouth have confirmed the departure of Luis Sinisterra after his move to Brazilian side Cruzeiro was made permanent following the activation of an obligation-to-buy clause.

It was first reported last August that the Colombian winger joined Cruzeiro on an initial loan deal worth £2 million, with the overall package potentially rising to £10 million through add-ons. Despite talk of an "obligation" to buy, due to an all too familiar theme of injury setbacks, it looked as if Cruzeiro would not be taking up their buy option, however, it seems that has in fact been triggered.

Sinisterra arrived at Bournemouth on loan from Leeds United in September 2023, with Jaidon Anthony moving in the opposite direction on a loan-move, which then became permanent after their promotion to the Premier League.

After showing glimpses of his quality during his first season on the south coast, the Cherries moved to secure his services permanently in February 2024 in a deal reported to be worth around £20 million.

There was considerable excitement surrounding the Colombian's arrival, with his pace, dribbling ability and eye for goal viewed as a strong fit for Andoni Iraola's attacking style. While he demonstrated those qualities on occasions though, injuries prevented him from ever fully establishing himself as a regular starter - and Cherries fans often found themselves scratch their heads at being able to justify the expense of his transfer to Dean Court.

The winger made more than 50 Premier League appearances during his time at Vitality Stadium, scoring eight goals and contributing three assists. Among his standout moments were a spectacular long-range strike in a 3-0 Boxing Day victory over Fulham, a goal away at Manchester City, and the dramatic late winner in Bournemouth's memorable 3-2 comeback victory over Everton in August 2024.

However, recurring fitness problems proved a major obstacle throughout his spell with the club. Increased competition for places in Bournemouth's attacking positions also limited his opportunities, with Sinisterra often being used as an impact substitute rather than a consistent starter.

Despite showing flashes of the talent that made him such a sought-after player, injuries and a lack of continuity ultimately prevented him from making the impact many had hoped for. His Bournemouth career will be remembered for moments of brilliance rather than sustained influence - something which Leeds fans themselves warned Cherries supporters about, before his arrival on the south coast.

Since moving to Cruzeiro, Sinisterra has made 24 appearances, scoring four goals, registering one assist. Cherries fans were silently hoping Luis could return as a rejuvenated player, however it seems that included in the deal was an obligation to buy, which has now seen the 26-year-old complete his move to South America.
