Tyler Adams' World Cup dream is over. The AFC Bournemouth and USA midfielder saw his side exit at the round of 16, as Belgium ran riot in a 4-1 victory over the co hosts. This also means that the Cherries no longer have any participants in the tournament, with Adams being the final Cherry to exit.

Tyler Adams has become the latest Cherries player to bow out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the United States suffered a dissappointing 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the last 16.

The Bournemouth midfielder had been one of the standout performers for Mauricio Pochettino's side throughout the tournament, once again underlining his importance at the heart of the American midfield. Tyler provided the leadership, intensity and defensive discipline that helped the USA progress from the group stage before overcoming Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32.

However, their hopes of a memorable run on home soil came to an end against a clinical Belgium side, who proved too strong on this occasion, booking their place in the quarter finals of the tournament.

A frustrating exit for the co hosts who many fancied to upset Belgium, but Adams can certainly reflect on another impressive international tournament for himself and his nation. The midfield enforcer was a near ever present for the Americans, setting the tempo in midfield and once again demonstrating the qualities that have made him such an influential figure for both club and country. Tyler no doubt heads home with his held high.

Cherries Participants Head Home

Adams' elimination also marks the end of AFC Bournemouth's involvement in this summer's World Cup, with every Cherries representative now heading home ahead of pre season preparations under new head coach Marco Rose.

Brazilian winger Rayan saw his campaign end with a somewhat surprising defeat to Norway and Justin Kluivert saw his penalty rebound off the post in Netherlands' penalty shootouut defeat by Morocco. Goalkeeper Alex Paulsen and New Zealand were eliminated earlier in the competition with Alex having remained as an unused substitute throughout, whilst Scotland duo Ryan Christie and Ben Gannon-Doak were unable to extend their stay in the tournament after their exit in the group stage.

So none of Cherries World Cup contingent will return with a winner's medal, but there is plenty for the club to be encouraged by after a summer in which several players enhanced their reputations on the global stage.

Not only did Adams continue his integral role for the USA, but Scotland's Ben Gannon-Doak also emerged with plenty of credit. The youngster showed flashes of the pace, direct running and confidence that have supporters excited, giving a glimpse of what he could offer for both club and country in the years ahead. His Bournemouth career has yet to really get going, but his performances in this summer's tournament should only leave Cherries fans with excitement.

No doubt the biggest winner from a Bournemouth perspective was Rayan. The teenage sensation not only forced his way into a call up from Carlo Ancelotti, but he then forced his way into Brazil's starting eleven and looked increasingly at home alongside some of world football's biggest stars. His fearless performances and growing influence suggested the Cherries have a truly special talent ready to make another significant step next season.
