Cherries forward Enes Unal finds himself facing a summer of uncertainty. A lack of minutes with the club has now meant any hopes Enes had of representing Türkiye at the World Cup have vanished. Will a new head coach at Bournemouth keep Unal motivated? Or result in the end of his Cherries career?
It's been a difficult few years for Enes Unal since initially joining Bournemouth on loan in 2024. The club opted to sign the frontman on a permanent basis come the summer of 2024, but his Cherries career has been ultimately been hampered by injuries. The multiple injuries and lack of game time at club level has resulted in Enes being left out of Turkiye's World Cup preliminary squad ahead of the World Cup. A huge blow for Unal personally, particularly following the announcement that his team mate Rayan has made the Brazil national squad.
Unal's International Career To Date
Enes scored his first two goals for the Turkiye senior side during their Euro 2020 qualification campaign, and was then selected for the Turkish squad for Euro 2020 whilst performing well for Getafe in La Liga.
Whilst at Bournemouth Unal managed to secure a place in Turkiye's preliminary squad for Euro 2024, but sadly he had to withdraw through injury.
A real shame for Enes who was widely regarded as an exciting prospect when coming through the ranks at a young age. His impressive youth career with Bursaspor even earned the striker a move to Manchester City in 2015. He managed to smash through the youth tiers with his national side, and was even given his under 21 call up aged just 16, following a run that saw Enes bag 25 goals in 24 games for Turkiye's under 16's.
As of now and with Enes' lack of minutes with the Cherries, and competition within the Turkiye squad, it feels like a tall ask for Unal to get himself back into the national sides immediate plans.
Where does Unal's future lie?
Despite many important moments for the Cherries, on the whole it certainly feels as if his time at the club may be on it's last legs. He has been used as an impact sub late on in games for Bournemouth this season, and baring his impressive late goal against West Ham in November, he's struggled to make much of an impression. I think most Bournemouth fans would anticipate Enes heading out of the club along with the recent confirmed loss of Marcos Senesi.
Enes may well know where his future lies, but he could well be motivated by the Cherries having a new head coach coming. Marco Rose may well fancy Unal's undoubted qualities more than current head coach Andoni Iraola, and this could be enough for Enes to continue fighting for his career on the south coast.
