Igor Thiago said his season at Brentford feels “like a dream” after scoring both goals in the 2-2 draw with Everton, with the Brazilian also making clear he intends to push all the way in the Premier League Golden Boot race.

Thiago’s brace at the Gtech took him to another milestone in what has become a standout season, and his mood afterwards reflected that. Asked to sum up the campaign he is having after being told he is now Brentford’s top Premier League goalscorer, Thiago said: “I’m really happy for what God has given to me this season, and then yeah, I’m just living like a dream here.” He added, “We enjoy every moment here and then score a few more goals.”

It was a telling response, not least because of how much his season has gathered pace in recent weeks. Thiago has become the focal point of Brentford’s attack at exactly the stage of the campaign when results are carrying the most weight, and his two goals against Everton were another reminder of how central he now is to Keith Andrews’ side.

His rise has not been limited to club level either. Thiago was also asked about the impact of his recent Brazil call-up and the goal he scored on his senior international debut, and he admitted that the last few weeks have come together at the right time. “Exactly like you say, this came all together,” he said. “With my performance, of course, with my goals, it made me go to represent my country, and then I’m really happy with that.”

That link between club form and international recognition is an important part of the story. Thiago is no longer simply enjoying a productive run in a Brentford shirt. He is now carrying that form onto a much bigger stage, and the confidence that comes with it was obvious in the way he spoke after Everton.

Perhaps the clearest example came when the conversation turned to the Golden Boot. Thiago was told he is only one goal behind Erling Haaland in the race for the award and was asked directly if he could win it. His answer left little doubt about his mindset. “In Jesus name, I can,” he said. “I can. I will fight for my own life for that.”

For Brentford, that belief is valuable in itself. The club remain in the race for Europe, and a striker playing with this level of conviction could have a major say in how the season ends. For Thiago, the message was simple enough. He is enjoying the best spell of his Brentford career so far, he knows what is in front of him, and he is not backing away from it.
