The Italian giants face a steep valuation and a defiant defender as the Bees leverage a long-term contract to shield their rising star from a Serie A return.

Michael Kayode’s name has appeared again in Italy as Inter Milan continue to look at options for the right side of their team.

The Brentford defender ticks a lot of boxes for Inter: young, Italian, athletic, proven in the Premier League and with Serie A experience from his Fiorentina days.

But the challenge for Inter is exactly what Brentford would have hoped for.

Kayode is not an easy player to prise away.

Italian outlet Sprint e Sport has examined Inter’s options on the right, with the club needing someone who can meet Champions League standards after recent setbacks in that position.

Kayode is a logical candidate, given his background in Italian football and the progress he has made since swapping Fiorentina for Brentford.

Kayode has been linked with Inter as a possible lower-cost right-sided option, but even that comes with complications. With his value perceived to be around €40 million, a far cry from what Brentford paid to make his move permanent.

Brentford only made Kayode’s move permanent in May 2025, announcing a five-year contract with an option for another year.

That puts Brentford in a strong position. Kayode is not nearing the end of his contract, and the club is under no pressure to make a quick call on his future.

Kayode is settled for the long term, has adapted well to English football and is now an important figure in Brentford’s squad.

His own words add another layer to the Inter speculation.

Kayode has already been asked about interest from Serie A, with Juventus previously named as an admirer. His answer at the time was not the response of a player pushing for a move back to Italy.

“Honestly, I’m not thinking about returning to Italy,” Kayode said.

“I just want to do well, improve here at Brentford and keep growing at this club.

“Obviously, attention from Juventus, like from any top club, is always nice, but I’m very focused on the end of the season.”

That answer feels relevant again with Inter now in the frame. Kayode did not rule out interest from big Italian clubs, but made it clear his focus is on Brentford and his own progress in west London.

He also spoke about how quickly he has settled at Brentford.

“Yes, I’m happy here and I’m well,” Kayode said.

“At Brentford I’ve found a family. We are a young team, the atmosphere is wonderful.

“Between the staff and the people at the training ground, I feel at home. It was easy for me to settle, despite the normal doubts I had at the beginning. It feels like I’ve been here for ten years.”

From Brentford’s perspective, Kayode is exactly the sort of player bigger clubs are bound to watch. He arrived with pedigree from Fiorentina and Italy’s youth teams, and his Premier League experience has only raised his profile.

His athleticism fits the English game, and his long throw has become a real weapon for Brentford. He gives Keith Andrews a modern right-back: aggressive, quick across the pitch and able to push high when needed.

Inter’s need is clear. Their system relies on wing-backs, and a young Italian with Premier League experience is always going to catch the eye.

But what appeals on paper does not always fit the budget.
