A lethal first-half blitz and defensive discipline propelled the Reds to victory, punishing Brighton’s momentary lapses and halting their impressive winning streak in a hard-fought Anfield clash.

Brighton and Hove Albion's incredible winning run in the Premier League comes to an end with a frustrating defeat against Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.

Some moments to forget or themes to remember?

A similar story for the Seagulls: a crazy few minutes cost Fabian Hürzeler's side two goals in the first half. Quick goals in the form of an own goal from Pascal Groß and Alexander Isak gave Albion a very difficult task of turning the game around from the get-go.

The title of an own goal on Groß's head may sound harsher than the reality. A wicked deflection totally changed the trajectory of the ball, and it bobbled under Bart Verbruggen.

The Reds doubled their advantage moments later. Isak finished off a lethal attack from close range, and it came while Hürzeler's side appeared to be very rattled, having conceded previously.

This isn't the first time that it has happened this season. Albion shipped three in 30 minutes at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, and two at Old Trafford against Manchester United. They will need to learn more discipline both tactically and mentally if they are to compete at the higher end of the table this season.

As we know, the Premier League will punish you ruthlessly.

How did Brighton respond?

Albion had a better rest of the game, despite the gaps shown in the first half. Finishing the half strongly with Yasin Ayari hitting the post; previous efforts from both Groß and Maxim De Cuyper in the first half, and the biggest chance of the half falling to Ayari, who fired over the empty net in front of the Kop.

The Seagulls were not without their chances in a shaky first half. Both full-backs were clearly a problem, as the Seagulls clearly missed Ferdi Kadıoğlu, who went off within five minutes due to an injury.

Hürzeler tightened things up by taking off Olivier Boscagli at half-time, and the game looked to be more promising. But with better quality in the final third, Albion could have drawn the game. Plenty of good positions; Diego Gomez often found himself in the right areas.

That said, no player carved out a clear opportunity to score, and Alisson wasn't tested enough for a side that wants to finish in the top four this season.

Hürzeler will look back on the game with plenty of positives. His side responded well to a possible drubbing and turned the game into one that they feel they should've left with more than a defeat. A point could've been a fair result, but it would be impossible not to credit the Reds' defence. Araujo won just about everything that went his way!

Mentions are due to both Bart Verbruggen and Lewis Dunk. Albion could have conceded multiple goals at times today, and the unstoppable duo continued to show their class for Brighton. Verbruggen is becoming a much more reliable figure between the sticks, while the ever-reliable Dunk had a brilliant defensive performance today.
