On Tuesday, the 2nd of June 2026, there has been official confirmation that yet two more Chelsea players will be heading to the World Cup this summer
Although Chelsea fans are very excited for what they hope to be a very exciting transfer window under new manager Xabi Alonso, attention has naturally turned to this summer's FIFA World Cup in North America this summer.
Particularly as there will be so many Chelsea players involved at the tournament. You have Marc Cucurella with Spain, Reece James with England, Moises Caicedo with Ecuador, Enzo Fernandez with Argentina, and so on and so forth.
That said, there are also a number of Chelsea players who will not be off to the other side of the Atlantic this summer. Robert Sanchez has not been named in the Spain squad, whilst none of Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill or Cole Palmer are in the England squad. Perhaps most notably, Joao Pedro was left out of Brazil's squad by former Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti.
However, there are still more first team players going than not. And that has only increased on Tuesday. Indeed, as we have official confirmation that Mamadou Sarr and Nicolas Jackson have made the cut to be part of Senegal's final 26 man squad for the tournament.
Both players had been involved in a friendly against the USA on Sunday evening, where they lost just their second game in 90 minutes since the 2022 World Cup. However, a provisional squad was used for that game, meaning some players would be cut.
So, this is great news for both. You cannot help but feel so happy for Sarr. He was having such a good loan at Strasbourg in the first half of the season, playing Ligue 1 and UEFA Conference League football, and had even captained them at such a young age.
He was then brought back to Chelsea for no reason in January, and played just 300 minutes of football in the second half of the season. Fortunately, Senegal have seen past that and know just how talented he is.
As for Jackson, there has been talk that he could stay at the club next season, having spent the 25/26 on loan at German giants Bayern Munich. He played a big part in one of Senegal's goals against the USA, and will be hoping for a starting role this summer, perhaps hoping to show Chelsea what he is still capable of in the process.
Regarding the schedule, Senegal will face (all kick off times BST); France on the 16th June at 20:00, Norway on the 23rd at 01:00, and Iraq on the 26th at 20:00. Tough group, but with 8/12 third placed teams advancing, they should back themselves to go through by hook or by crook.
