In what has been a very difficult time of late, and season in general, Chelsea have been given some great news regarding the return to action of injured star
Make no bones about it, it has not been the season that anyone associated with Chelsea would have hoped for.
The team are currently in a battle for top five (and thus a UEFA Champions League) spot, were dumped out of Europe humiliatingly by PSG, and the Carabao Cup by rivals Arsenal.
There is still a chance to save the season by winning the FA Cup, with a semi final against old foe Leeds United on the agenda next weekend at Wembley, as well as securing Champions League football for next season, but so far, it has been very disappointing.
Whose fault that it is can be a very hot topic. Lots of people blame the ownership, lots of people blame Enzo Maresca, lots of people blame Liam Rosenior, lots of people blame the players. And so on and so forth.
One misfortune that cannot be pinned on any person in particular is the absence of Levi Colwill, who suffered a heartbreaking ACL injury on the eve of the 25/26 campaign.
The defender had started for England in their most recent game before the said injury, and would have felt like he had every chance of going to the World Cup this summer, which would only have made things all the more hard to take on a personal level.
However, there is some good news. When speaking ahead of the game with Manchester United on Saturday, Rosenior was asked if we would see Colwill before the end of the season, to which he responded: "I'm hoping so. He's an outstanding player and a leader.
Levi will play some minutes for the U21s tomorrow, which is fantastic for him. When you have a long-term injury, to the extent of Levi's injury, you need a long rehab period. I want to make sure he is 100% right in terms of his match fitness before we consider him for the first team."
Some encouraging quotes, no doubt. The fact he will be back out on the grass in a game, even at youth level, is brilliant to see, and must mean he is not too far from a comeback, which we could possibly see before the end of the season.
The ideal for next season would be to have a partnership of Colwill and a new, external centre back who can play alongside him in the back four, with Marc Cucurella and Reece James as the full back pairing making up the defence.
