With the knockout stage at this summer's FIFA World Cup now upon us, here are how things look for every Chelsea player in action at the tournament
Although there was a surprisingly low figure of just 11 Chelsea players selected for this summer's FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, every single one of them has made the knockout stage of the competition. So, let's take a look at how things now look for each and every one of them.
To begin, Jorrel Hato's Netherlands side won their group with seven points, so would have felt like that merited an easier opponent than Morocco in the round of 32, but that is the luck of the draw sometimes. That showdown will take place in Monterrey on Tuesday at 02:00 BST. Hato will be hoping for a maiden appearance in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Malo Gusto's France won their group with nine points, the first time they have done so at a tournament since the 1998 World Cup, where they won the tournament. They will face Graham Potter's Sweden on Tuesday at 22:00. Like with Hato, he will be hoping for his first appearance at some point.
A few hours later, on Wednesday morning at 02:00, Moises Caicedo, Kendry Paez and Ecuador will take on Mexico at the iconic Azteca stadium, after their famous win over Germany to secure their place in the knockouts.. Paez is another player who has been an unused sub for all three group games, whilst Caicedo has, as always, been a huge part of the side.
On Wednesday at 17:00, after winning their group with seven points England will take on DR Congo in Atlanta. It's unlikely that either Chelsea player are in action though, with Trevoh Chalobah most definitely a back up option and Reece James set to miss the game through injury.
Later on on Wednesday, at 21:00, Mamadou Sarr, Nicolas Jackson and Senegal will face Mike Penders' Belgium in Seattle, after finishing eighth out of eight third placed teams. Likewise with a number of the aforementioned players, Sarr has not actually touched the pitch. Jackson has played in all three games, two as a starter, and registered an assist against Norway.
Then, on Friday at 00:00, Pedro Neto and Portugal will face Croatia in Toronto, after they were unable to win their group, finishing second behind Colombia, with five points to their seven.
To finish off the round of 32 for Chelsea players, Enzo Fernandez and Argentina will take on Cape Verde on Friday at 23:00. The midfielder was given a rest in their final group game over Jordan last night, with the group having already been won, so he should be fresh and ready to go. We will keep you updates on every game here at roundtable.
