Ahead of tomorrow afternoons massive Premier League game at home to Manchester City, here is the situation regarding Moises Caicedo's suspension tightrope

Tomorrow afternoon, Chelsea will host Manchester City on matchday 32 of the Premier League season, as they look to boost their hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification.

The game will kick off at 16:30 BST, the Premier League's prime time slot, live on Sky Sports for those in the UK, as this game often is. The Blues are yet to beat City since that night in Porto five years ago.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the Premier League would, as expected, be given five guaranteed spots in next season's Champions League, meaning that there can be very little excuse for the Blues.

However, despite this boost, there could be a spanner in the works in the remaining games. Indeed, because if Moises Caicedo picks up a booking tomorrow, he will be suspended for two games, as a result of 10 yellow cards.

After the game tomorrow, suspensions will be wiped. So, if the Ecuadorian can get through the visit to City without having his name taken, he will no longer be on a tightrope this season.

The problem is, last time Caicedo needed to get through a game without a booking - at home to AFC Bournemouth right at the end of 2025 - he picked up a yellow card in the first five minutes, ironically missing the reverse fixture against Pep Guardiola's side.

Should the 24-year-old pick up the aforementioned two-game suspension, he would miss the games with Manchester United at home, as well as Brighton and Hove Albion away.

To try and give a glass-half-full perspective, it would mean he is fully fresh for the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley on the 26th of April, but overall, you would still rather it didn't happen. Particularly as Liam Rosenior could choose to rest him anyway.

Let's see. Chelsea will be without Enzo Fernandez tomorrow, who is currently serving a two-game suspension of his own - one given to him by the club itself for comments on his future.

Therefore, it seems very unlikely that Rosenior will play it safe and bench Caicedo. The likely play is a midfield two of him and the former City midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Potential Chelsea XI at home to City on Sunday afternoon; Sanchez; Gusto, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella; Lavia, Caicedo; Estevao, Palmer, Neto; Joao Pedro.

Huge, huge game.
