Chelsea's injury list has started to grow again after several positive recoveries during the international break.
Chelsea claimed a 2-0 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday afternoon, courtesy of a second-half brace from Pedro Neto, who ensured Everton suffered their first league defeat this season.
Alonso’s current biggest worry is regarding Emiliano Martinez, who was stretchered off with a head injury after colliding with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
Martinez’s replacement, Mike Penders, made his Premier League debut and managed to keep the Blues’ clean sheet in tact to ensure they kept their first league clean sheet in 23 games.
Although Alonso couldn’t provide a detailed insight on Martinez at full-time, he confirmed: “Emi left the stadium conscious.
“Right now he’s in the hospital, doing precautionary tests. So, we need to wait, unfortunately. Hopefully, it won’t be too bad, but we need to wait.
“It was a concussion, but more than that – I just saw one clip.”
The Premier League follows The FA's Enhanced Care Pathway, which dictates that after a concussion, players cannot resume playing until the 12th day under normal circumstances and the seventh day only if “exceptional criteria” are met.
This means the possibility of Martinez making it back in time for next Saturday’s London derby against Tottenham Hotspur is rather slim.
In other news for Chelsea, Moises Caicedo continued to show why he was so badly missed prior to his return to the side last weekend. He almost netted a Goal of the Season contender, but was only able to smash his effort off the woodwork in the first-half.
The Chelsea midfielder was substituted late on and Alonso confirmed it was due to the Ecuadorian being tired.
“For Moi, it was his second game. He was a bit tired,” Alonso revealed.
Meanwhile, Gusto was absent from Chelsea’s matchday squad for the trip to Merseyside. A surprise omission when the teams were announced.
Alonso clarified Gusto’s status and revealed the France international had been suffering from illness.
“Malo was ill yesterday, and he wasn’t feeling well to (travel) to Liverpool,” the manager explained.
It looks likely Gusto will recover in time to be in contention to face Spurs next weekend.

In addition to the known unavailability of Reece James, Jamie Gittens, and Emmanuel Emegha, Pep Chavarria was also dropped from the matchday squad against Everton.
Chavarria was expected to start after his strong performance against Bournemouth last week. Instead, Jorrel Hato started against Everton and did well.
“Pep, in the last action in training, he felt something,” Alonso confirmed. “Tomorrow (Sunday) he’s having tests to get full information about the injury. But he wasn’t feeling well enough to compete today.”
Chelsea will have a week to prepare for the battle against Spurs next Saturday. However, the following week will be more hectic, with a mid-week Carabao Cup trip to Liverpool and a Premier League home fixture against Manchester United three days later.
This will likely force Alonso to rotate his team and rely more on fringe players, especially as Chelsea's injury list seems to be growing again.
If Martinez is unavailable for a couple of upcoming matches, Alonso has already shown his faith in Penders, who featured in both of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup ties this season.
“He has personality; he’s brave, and we have full trust in him,” Alonso said about the Belgium international. "He played in the cup and whenever he’s needed like the other players.”
Chelsea's current run of fixtures will then end with a Premier League trip to Sunderland before heading into the season's second international break.
