The Toffees are eyeing a midfield overhaul as the Senegalese international seeks a Premier League move, potentially replacing Idrissa Gueye.
Everton are interested in signing Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye in the summer transfer window, and he's keen on a move to the Premier League.
Signing a new midfielder or two appears to be a major priority for Everton during the summer transfer window. Whether Everton sign one or more will likely depend on outgoings, with Idrissa Gueye currently out of contract at the end of this month and Tim Iroegbunam linked with a departure.
Hull City are one of the sides showing an interest in signing Iroegbunam, and they are seemingly willing to pay £20 million to secure his signature.
The Everton midfielder has one year remaining on his contract, so the Toffees need to make a decision on his future.
If he and Idrissa Gueye both leave the club, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Everton bring in two midfielders during the summer transfer window.
Everton eyeing Pape Gueye
According to a report from Marca in Spain, Everton are one of the sides that are showing an interest in signing Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye. Villarreal are seemingly accepting that Pape Gueye will be leaving the club this summer, but it looks as though he won't come cheap.
Villarreal rejected offers of over €40 million in the January transfer window from sides in Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Pape Gueye is reportedly prioritising playing in the Premier League, and they are waiting for offers to come this summer.
The Senegalese international has two years remaining on his contract at Villarreal, and his performances at the World Cup might spark further interest in the midfielder.
Replacing Gueye with Gueye?
It's certainly interesting that Everton could be replacing Idrissa Gueye with Pape Gueye in the summer transfer window, while they also play together at international level.
Pape Gueye enjoyed a strong performance against Iran last time out, coming off the bench in the second half to score two goals and provide an assist.
It'll be interesting to know if Pape Gueye has been having conversations with the likes of Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye about a potential move to Everton this summer.
Pape Gueye could be a smart replacement for Idrissa Gueye if the Toffees can convince him to come to the club in the summer.
It's an incredibly important summer transfer window for Everton, as it is far from just the midfield that they need to be sorting out.
