The Hammers seek a replacement for Crysencio Summerville as they navigate Championship life, eyeing Everton winger Dwight McNeil.
West Ham are reportedly interested in signing Everton winger Dwight McNeil in the summer transfer window, should he be willing to drop down to the Championship.
It's been an interesting year or so for McNeil at Everton, especially after David Moyes arrived through the door. The English midfielder struggled to play regularly during the 25-26 season, with Moyes opting for Jack Grealish on the left-hand side of attack.
In January, McNeil was heavily linked with a move to Crystal Palace, with the Everton winger even completing a medical. Despite his failed transfer, McNeil was reintegrated into the Everton squad, and interestingly, Moyes started playing him more regularly.
As we head into the summer transfer window, McNeil is now being linked with another departure, and it will be interesting to see whether he actually heads through the exit door.
West Ham eyeing McNeil
According to ExWHUEmployee, a reliable West Ham insider, the Hammers are showing an interest in signing Everton winger McNeil in the summer transfer window.
A deal would, of course, hinge on whether McNeil would be willing to drop down to the Championship.
West Ham are potentially looking to sign a replacement for Crysencio Summerville, who has been heavily linked with a host of clubs in the summer transfer window.
It's unclear how much Everton would demand to allow McNeil to depart, but Palace did agree a £20m deal back in the January transfer window.
Whether the Hammers would be willing to pay that sort of fee in the summer after dropping down to the Championship remains to be seen, but it certainly wouldn't be a surprise if he was available.
Everton might plot Bowen deal
Interestingly, Everton have been linked with a move to sign West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen this summer. If the Hammers actively pursue a move to sign McNeil, it will be interesting to see if the Toffees look to complete some sort of swap deal involving the two aforementioned wingers.
The Hammers won't want to lose Bowen this summer, but after their relegation, he might be seeking a move back to the Premier League.
It is rare that an official swap deal takes place in the modern era, but the two clubs could work out deals that make sense for both parties.
Bowen would certainly be an upgrade on McNeil, but it remains to be seen whether he'd be keen on a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
