Carabao Cup: Third Round

Liverpool shift their focus to their third competition in as many games as they enter the Carabao Cup tomorrow night, taking on Tottenham at Anfield.

The Reds will be looking for a response after a severely underwhelming display at home on Saturday against Fulham, playing out a 0-0 game, but being fortunate to emerge from that fixture with a point, following a Jeremy Jacquet goal-line clearance.

Carabao Cup: Liverpool 4-0 Tottenham (4-1 aggregate) - 6th February 2025

The last time these two sides met in the League Cup was around a year and a half ago, when they played two legs against each other for a place in the final at Wembley.

Spurs went into the second leg of this tie with a 1-0 advantage, but were ultimately put to one side when they arrived at Anfield, with Arne Slot's Liverpool putting four past a poor Spurs side and sealing their spot in the final.

It would end up being a final that the Reds would go on to lose, being beaten by a high- confidence Newcastle United side 2-1.

Last Time Out: Liverpool v Fulham

As previously mentioned, the Merseyside club played out a dull 0-0 game against Fulham in the Premier League over the weekend, managing just three shots against a Fulham side who hadn't picked up any points in their first three games of the season.

There were chances to win the game for both sides, with LFC's chances falling to both Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak, but the Spanish winger would hit the bar and the Swedish striker would glance his head just wide in the 91st minute of the game.

Tottenham's Form

Spurs and manager Roberto De Zerbi go into this game in really poor form, having not scored a goal in the league in over 400 minutes of play. And after back-to-back 0-0 draws for the North London outfit against Nottingham Forest and, most recently, Everton, they will be looking to finally find the back of the net in the cup against Liverpool and book their place in the 4th round of the Carabao Cup.

With the short turnaround for both sides, expect a number of changes, something that Roberto De Zerbi has hinted at in his pre-match press conference:

"Now we play Tuesday in Liverpool and we play with ALL other players but it will be a very important match for us."
