The starting keeper for the Brazil national team, Alisson Becker, finished the group stages with 2/3 clean sheets. Brazil finished top in group C with 7 points.

The South American side will face Japan in the Round of 32. Japan prepared for the tournament with their captain and current Liverpool midfielder, Wataru Endo.

Unfortunately, he picked up an injury and couldn’t take part. A similar scenario was endured for former red, Takumi Minamino.

Brazil go into the match as favourites, and Alisson will be hoping to earn another clean sheet as he chases down the Golden Glove.

Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo

The Netherlands started their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Japan. All 3 Liverpool stars contributed massively in their group stage matches as they finished top of group F with 7 points.

Virgil van Dijk scored the opening goal of the Netherlands’ World Cup tournament following an assist from Ryan Gravenberch. Gravenberch assisted with the second goal, also.

Cody Gakpo won the MOTM award in the second match against Sweden. He scored 2 goals and picked up an assist, cementing their first 3 points.

In the final matchday, the Netherlands won 3-1 against Tunisia with Virgil van Dijk registering an assist. 7 points were enough to claim the top spot for the Dutch national team.

The Netherlands will face the current asterisk AFCON champions, Morocco. It won’t be an easy fixture, but it’s one where the Reds are part of the favourites.

In some extremely sad news, Cody Gakpo shared that he and his partner’s child passed away during pregnancy. Everyone will support his decision, whether he decides to continue taking part in the World Cup or not.

Alexander Isak

Sharing a group with the Netherlands was Alexander Isak and Sweden. They finished 3rd in their group with 4 points following their opening game win against Tunisia and a draw against Japan.

Alexander Isak had a MOTM performance against Tunisia as he scored and registered 2 assists. In the following game, he picked up another assist against the Netherlands in their 5-1 loss, as he is currently the joint top assist provider in the tournament.

Sweden finished top of the 3rd place best teams, with a goal difference of 0 but an incredible 7 goals scored. They may have drawn the short straw as they face the favourites for the tournament, France.

Germany kicked off their tournament with a 7-1 win over Curacao. Florian Wirtz assisted on the first goal within 6 minutes.

The Germans continued their tournament with a win over the Ivory Coast, but lost on the final matchday against Ecuador. This result didn’t change anything as Germany finished top of group E with 6 points.

Germany will face Paraguay in the Round of 32. A match that should see them enter the Round of 16 with ease.

Alexis Mac Allister

The current World Cup champion in Liverpool’s team is Alexis Mac Allister. Playing alongside the incredible Lionel Messi, there’s no doubt about where Argentina finished, top place in group J with all 9 points.

Mac Allister has looked like a completely different player compared to his recent season with Liverpool. He’s involved constantly and was a huge reason as to why Lionel Messi was able to score a hat-trick in the opening game.

Argentina will face Cape Verde in the round of 32. The champions are without a doubt the favourites heading into this tie.

Victor Munoz

Liverpool’s £35 million signing was selected for the Spanish national team before his signing. Heavily tracked by Newcastle, he opted for a move to Merseyside.

Munoz is yet to play for the current Euro Champions. They finished top of group H with 7 points.

Spain will face Austria in the round of 32.

Special Mentions

Unfortunately, former red Andy Robertson failed to make it out of the group stages with Scotland. They finished 10th in the 3rd placed team’s table.

Mohamed Salah’s Egypt were delighted, however, as they finished 2nd in their group with 5 points. The Egyptian King assisted their opening goal and scored the winning goal in their first-ever World Cup victory in history.

Author’s verdict

It’s incredibly pleasing to see all Liverpool players make the knockout stages of the biggest international tournament. Isak and Sweden have an insanely huge task to overcome in defeating France, but the other Reds should advance to the next stage.

There’s a really strong chance that a Liverpool player will be lifting the 2026 World Cup. However, that French side is going to have to be stopped, and at the moment, they look like an unstoppable force.
