Liverpool’s long-standing admiration for Michael Olise may have just been handed an intriguing new twist, with Bayern Munich reportedly considering a significant change to the Frenchman’s contract.

Release Clause

Despite Olise being tied to the Bundesliga champions until June 2029, Bayern are already working to secure his future on improved terms. According to Christian Falk, one possibility being discussed is inserting a release clause into any new agreement potentially creating a future pathway for Liverpool.

It certainly wouldn’t come cheap. Falk reports that Bayern would only be comfortable with a clause at an enormous level, suggesting figures between €150million and €250million could be considered.

The German giants view Olise as virtually irreplaceable and are determined to protect themselves financially should he eventually decide to leave.

Players Stats

Olise has developed into one of Europe’s outstanding attacking players since swapping Crystal Palace for Munich in 2024. Last season, the 24-year-old produced a remarkable 15 goals and 19 assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances, earning the Bundesliga Player of the Season award. Bayern supporters also voted him their Player of the Season for a second successive campaign.

His form has continued into 2026/27. Olise found the net as Bayern opened their Bundesliga title defence with a thumping 5-1 victory over Stuttgart, further underlining his importance to Vincent Kompany’s side.

Liverpool Interest Refuses To Disappear

Liverpool have been linked with Olise for some time, with Sky Germany previously reporting that the Reds viewed him as a potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah.

The landscape at Anfield has changed following the arrival of Bradley Barcola, but Liverpool’s attacking options still lean heavily towards the left. Barcola, Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha naturally operate from that side, meaning an elite left-footed right winger such as Olise would offer something distinctly different.

Interestingly, Falk claims Barcola himself had been a serious Bayern option should Olise have departed, only for Liverpool to secure the French international instead.

For now, there is little indication Olise is pushing for Munich’s exit. Bayern’s official records confirm his current deal still has almost three years remaining, while Falk reports the winger appears happy in Germany.

But a release clause changes the conversation. Liverpool would still need to find an astronomical sum to activate it, yet it would remove one enormous obstacle, convincing Bayern to negotiate.

Olise isn’t available today. But if Bayern open that door even slightly Liverpool will surely be watch.
