Former Liverpool player and captain Steven Gerrard has been out of a managerial role for nearly two years, but recent reports have linked the Anfield hero to a job in the Championship with Hollywood-owned Wrexham AFC.
Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has been out of the managerial merry-go-round since his 18-month stint in Saudi Arabia ended in January 2025.
It had been believed that he wouldn't step back into a managerial role, having turned down opportunities at Rangers since leaving Al-Ettifaq, and was focusing more on enhancing his profile as a pundit.
But links to jobs are always likely to follow a name as big as Steven Gerrard, but the latest one could make the former central midfielder really consider ending his absence from club management.
Player to Coaching
As soon as the long-time Reds captain retired from football in November 2016, it was pretty clear that he wished to remain part of the footballing world.
While some players go off into the sunset after retiring, wishing for time out of the constant spotlight and pressure that being a top-level athlete brings, Gerrard had that hunger to continue being competitive in the world of football.
And if it wasn't going to be on the pitch anymore, then the touchline would do just nicely, so long as he could feel the atmosphere of the stadium around him

The Rangers Success
At Rangers, the pressure is huge, and the demand to compete for the Scottish Premiership is a burden all managers who come through the Ibrox doors have to comply with, but Gerrard took that in his stride.
In his debut campaign, he finished second, nine points off eventual winners Celtic, a strong showing and a marked improvement on their 3rd place finish the season before.
2019/20 was interrupted by Covid-19, but Rangers would still finish second again, comfortably ahead of the rest of the chasing pack.
But it was the 2020/21 season when everything clicked for Gerrard and Rangers. 102 points, 25 clear of Celtic and a dominant title win; this was a huge moment for Gerrard and one that would earn him a move back to the Premier League.
The Aston Villa Failure
Aston Villa would be the Scouse-born player-turned-manager's next destination, as he looked to replicate his Scottish success in England.
But after a poor start to the 2022/23 season, he was sacked, destroying his reputation in English management, resulting in the previously mentioned move to Saudi Arabia.

Now, Gerrard has been linked with what would undoubtedly be one of the most high-profile roles in the Championship right now, Wrexham.
The Hollywood-owned Welsh side has had a meteoric rise from the National League to England's second tier, and all this success has been under Phil Parkinson.
However, about a quarter of the way through this season, Wrexham sit in 16th place, six points off the play-offs and playing poorly for the large majority of their games so far.
Now, while the English coach has credit in the bank, if results don't turn around soon, a new manager could be needed in North East Wales.
IMAGO / SportimageAccording to Ben Jacobs, the pressure is building on Phil Parkinson, and while the club's hierarchy is giving him time to turn things around, succession planning is said to be taking place.
A host of names are said to be candidates for the role, should it become vacant, with Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard high up on the Championship side's list.
The report goes on to say that Gerrard would be open to the move and would listen to any conversations Ryan Reynolds and Co. wanted to have with him.
