Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Kaishu Sano this summer, with the Mainz 05 midfielder attracting attention from several Premier League clubs.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the 25-year-old, whose reputation has grown rapidly following his performances for Japan and a standout goal against Brazil at the World Cup.

Sano’s rise has naturally pushed him into the conversation for a potential move and Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel has addressed the speculation surrounding the midfielder’s future.

“England is the league where outstanding players usually move.”

Heidel has already acknowledged that Sano has attracted attention and even hinted that a move to England is a realistic possibility.

“There’s no doubt there are interested parties. It’s well known that England is the league where outstanding players usually move. Our big advantage is that the player still has a long term contract, so we’re under no pressure at all and won’t be rushing anything.”

Bild have since spoken with the Mainz sporting director, who expanded on the club’s stance and made clear how they view Sano’s situation.

“I won’t comment on any rumours or any of the clubs mentioned. We don’t have to sell Kaishu, we can afford to keep him,” Heidel explained.

“If he stays, there will be many happy people in the team, the club, and everywhere around it. But it’s like always at Mainz 05. Should an offer come in that takes our breath away, we’ll have to consider it!”

Sano’s Market Value This Summer

Sano’s performances for club and country have strengthened his standing in Europe and his valuation has risen accordingly. He is reportedly viewed as a €60 million midfielder, a figure Liverpool could consider if they decide to move forward with their interest. His long term contract at Mainz gives the Bundesliga club strong leverage in any negotiations, meaning securing a deal may prove difficult for Liverpool in a summer where several teams are looking to reinforce their midfield options.

Liverpool’s Position

Liverpool remain attentive to Sano’s situation as they continue shaping their squad under Andoni Iraola. The 25-year-old’s energy and ability to operate in a high intensity system make him a strong fit for the direction the club are taking.

With Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister both linked with moves elsewhere, Sano has emerged as a player to monitor as the window develops. A departure for either midfielder would leave Liverpool with three established senior options, alongside Trey Nyoni and Wataru Endo, meaning any outgoing could prompt an incoming.
