Rival Interest in Lamine Camara

AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara is a name often mentioned with Liverpool when discussing potential midfield additions, particularly to replace Curtis Jones if a move to Inter Milan does come to fruition.

However, Liverpool aren't the only Premier League side said to be interested in the Senegal international.

Lamine Camara Player Profile

Lamine Camara was one of Ligue 1's standout midfielders last season. An all-action, multi-faceted midfielder, Camara is a strong ball carrier who is also tenacious against the ball - representing a hybrid between a traditional No. 6 and No. 8 profile.

Camara is progressive with the ball, but shines most against it. He posted 1.85 interceptions per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 last season, and ranks in the 93rd percentile for ball recoveries - suggesting he would be a strong fit for an aggressive/pressing system.

Camara actually profiles quite similarly to fellow Ligue 1 breakout star Mamadou Sangaré, who recently signed for Brentford in what can only be described as a coup for the London side as they look to replace former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

Premier League Rival Makes Move

Sébastien Denis, editor-in-chief of Foot Mercato, has revealed that Crystal Palace have approached Monaco to sign Lamine Camara. He also reports that Nottingham Forest intend to make an offer, whilst Manchester United and Liverpool remain "on the lookout" for the Senegal international's transfer.

Monaco have reportedly placed a 50 million euro price tag on the player.

If Curtis Jones does leave Liverpool, the Reds will have to make a signing to fill the gap, unless they are truly confident in Trey Nyoni's ability to step up as a senior option this season.

Even if they are confident in Nyoni, a key part of Lamine Camara's profile - being defensive-minded - is something that is currently lacking from Liverpool's midfield department. Therefore, signing him could be a smart move regardless to strengthen the variety of options available to Andoni Iraola.

Some may suggest that his links to lower-level Premier League clubs prove that he is not of Liverpool's required level. However, how many times has a player signed for, and flourished at, a traditionally midtable Premier League club only to make the move to a "bigger" side within 12 to 24 months? Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea for the Reds to skip the middle man this time?

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace's interest in Camara is intriguing in and of itself. Could it suggest potential outgoings from their own midfield department, one that includes long-term Liverpool target Adam Wharton?

Only time will tell if Liverpool choose to add to the engine room, and who that addition may be.
