Federico Chiesa could be one of the biggest beneficiaries of Liverpool’s expected squad rotation when the Reds welcome Chelsea to Anfield in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday 28th October.

With a place in the quarter-finals at stake, the fourth-round tie presents an opportunity for Liverpool’s fringe players and emerging youngsters to make their case for more regular involvement, with Chiesa among those hoping to seize their moment.

Liverpool head into the contest following a 2-0 Premier League victory over Brighton on Sunday, but the demanding fixture schedule means changes could be on the cards ahead of another important league meeting with Arsenal on 1st November.

For Chiesa, the Chelsea clash could offer a valuable opportunity to remind supporters of the qualities he brings to the squad. The Italian winger possesses the pace, direct running and attacking instinct to trouble defenders, particularly when given space to drive towards goal.

His ability to operate across the frontline also gives Liverpool flexibility when reshaping their attack. Whether starting out wide or being introduced later in the game, Chiesa could provide the spark needed to unlock a Chelsea defence that will be determined to keep the hosts quiet.

Although a starting place is not guaranteed, his inclusion among Liverpool’s unused substitutes against Brighton strengthens the case for him to be considered for a greater role in midweek.

Youngsters Could Get Their Chance

Chiesa is unlikely to be the only player looking to benefit from rotation. Teenage winger Rio Ngumoha is another exciting option after continuing to attract attention with his willingness to take on defenders.

Trey Nyoni is also in contention, particularly if Florian Wirtz is rested following the ankle concern that forced him off against Brighton. Nyoni’s ability to operate in advanced midfield areas could prove useful if Liverpool need creativity between the lines.

Lewis Koumas and James McConnell are further options who could feature, while goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili may be handed another opportunity in cup competition.

Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo could also come into consideration as Liverpool look to manage the workload of their senior players.

However, rotation does not necessarily mean Liverpool will weaken their side significantly. With Chelsea standing between them and the last eight, they will still need a balanced team capable of handling a dangerous opponent.

For Chiesa, Wednesday represents more than simply another cup appearance. A strong performance could strengthen his claims for further opportunities, while giving Liverpool another reminder of the attacking depth they possess.

Anfield could provide the perfect stage for him to make his mark.
