Federico Chiesa is expected to report for Liverpool’s pre-season duties as he weighs up the next step in his career, with the Italian international determined to assess his opportunities before making any decision over his future.

According to the latest reports from Fabrizo Romano, Chiesa plans to join Liverpool’s summer training camp and work under new manager Andoni Iraola and his coaching staff, giving himself the chance to prove his value ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Rather than rushing into a transfer, the winger wants to evaluate where he stands in the squad once pre-season gets underway.

The 28-year-old endured a frustrating time at Anfield, struggling for regular minutes due to injuries and fierce competition in Liverpool’s attacking department.

Despite showing flashes of his undeniable quality whenever he featured, Chiesa found it difficult to establish himself as a consistent starter.

Instead of seeking an immediate exit, Chiesa intends to let pre-season unfold before deciding whether he has a realistic pathway to significant playing time. Strong performances during the summer could improve his standing within the squad and potentially convince Liverpool that he deserves a bigger role next season.

However, the report also suggests that if it becomes clear his opportunities will remain limited, Chiesa could become a serious target for clubs in Italy during the closing stages of the transfer window.

A return to Serie A would offer him familiar surroundings and the chance to rediscover the consistent form that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting wide players.

Italian clubs have continued to monitor his situation, knowing that Chiesa’s talent is unquestionable when fully fit. Any late-window move would likely depend on Liverpool’s willingness to negotiate and the player’s own assessment following several weeks of training and pre-season fixtures.

For Liverpool, the coming weeks could prove crucial. Chiesa’s experience, versatility and ability to play across the front line make him a valuable squad option, but regular football remains a priority for a player entering an important stage of his career.

With pre-season now set to provide the clearest indication of his role under Liverpool’s new era, Chiesa appears content to keep his options open.

Whether he earns a place in the Reds’ plans or eventually returns to Italy, his future is expected to become much clearer before the summer transfer window closes.
