0%Liverpool could be set for an unexpected January reinforcement after highly rated youngster Ifeanyi Ndukwe reportedly became eligible for a UK work permit, potentially opening the door for an early return to Anfield.
The exciting development could hand Liverpool another option in their defensive ranks without having to dip into the transfer market.
Gaining Experience At Levante UD
Ndukwe, currently gaining valuable experience with Spanish side Levante UD, has been unable to make the immediate switch to English football because of post-Brexit immigration regulations.
However, that obstacle may now have been overcome, raising the possibility of Liverpool bringing the promising defender into their first-team setup when the January transfer window opens.
IMAGO / Photo Players What Does The Work-Permit Development Mean For Liverpool?
Since Brexit, overseas players moving to English clubs have generally needed to qualify for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) from the Football Association before obtaining the necessary immigration permission.
The system considers several factors, including international appearances, domestic league minutes, the standard of competition and continental experience.
Players who accumulate sufficient points can qualify through the standard route, while clubs also have access to a limited number of places for eligible players who do not meet the usual points threshold.
For Liverpool, Ndukwe's reported eligibility is significant because it potentially removes one of the biggest administrative barriers preventing him from playing competitive football in England.
Crucially, his appearance for Levante against Barcelona in September reportedly helped him reach the required threshold. Liverpool would still need to complete the formal endorsement, visa and registration processes before selecting him.

Will Liverpool Recall Him In January?
Despite the excitement, an immediate return appears unlikely. With Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Ronald Araujo and Jeremy Jacquet available to Andoni Iraola, Ndukwe would face considerable competition for minutes.
The youngster impressed during pre-season following his arrival from Austria Vienna, demonstrating the physical presence and composure that make him an intriguing long-term prospect.
For Liverpool, the real victory is flexibility. Should injuries strike or defensive circumstances change, January now presents a potential opportunity that previously looked complicated.
And while supporters may have to wait to see Ndukwe make his competitive Liverpool debut, one significant hurdle has seemingly disappeared.
Sometimes the most important transfer developments involve players already on the books.
