Inter Milan’s pursuit of Curtis Jones has gone from background noise to a genuine transfer dilemma for Liverpool, as Fabrizio Romano reports that Inter still regard the midfielder as a priority target.

Pursuit Continues Following Frattesi Departure

The Nerazzurri believe a deal could happen for around €35 million, according to Gianluca Di Marizo, Inter Milan are ready to return for Jones following Davide Frattesi’s departure.

For Liverpool, this is no longer simply a question of whether Jones is worth €35m. It is about whether the club can afford to lose a homegrown player.

Player Stats

Jones’ 2025/26 numbers explain why the decision is difficult. He made 34 Premier League appearances, starting 18, and recorded one goal and two assists. His attacking output was modest, but his contribution cannot be measured purely through goals. He also registered 40 tackles and 18 interceptions, underlining the more rounded role he has developed in midfield.

At 25, Jones has experience, with more than 200 Liverpool appearances across competitions and two Premier League title already on his CV. He is comfortable receiving possession under pressure, carrying the ball through midfield and operating in different positions. Those qualities could be particularly useful to Andoni Iraola as Liverpool look to evolve tactically.

Keep or Sell?

Selling, however, would make sense from a squad-building perspective if the club believes Jones has reached his ceiling. Liverpool have significant competition in midfield, while €35m would provide funds for a younger player or a more productive midfielder.

There is also the reality that Jones’ contract runs until 2027, meaning Liverpool’s leverage will diminish as the deal approaches its final year.

Jones is a homegrown midfielder who understands the demands of playing for Liverpool, he can contribute defensively and offers tactical flexibility which is valuable, even when he is not producing spectacular numbers.

His departure would also remove another academy graduate from the squad, something that carries sporting and emotional significance at Anfield.

The biggest concern is what happens if Jones leaves and suddenly finds consistency elsewhere. Inter would offer him a different tactical environment, and Serie A could suit a technically gifted midfielder capable of controlling possession.

For Liverpool, €35m may be tempting. But the real question is whether that fee buys them enough to compensate for losing Curtis Jones.

No new bid has yet been announced, but Inter will definitely try to bag Jones before the transfer window closes.
