Harvey Elliott’s Liverpool story could be heading for another temporary goodbye but this time, the move feels far more important than simply finding minutes elsewhere.
Talks Held With Valencia
Liverpool are in talks with Valencia over a season-long loan for the 23-year-old, with Carlos Corberán personally speaking to Elliott about the role he would play at Mestalla.
The latest update, reported by James Pearce and Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, suggests negotiations are continuing as the transfer deadline approaches.
Elliott has already agreed personal terms with Valencia and has chosen the Spanish club despite reported interest from Napoli and Lazio. Liverpool have given the midfielder the green light to leave, with the two clubs now working on the structure of the loan.

Spanish reports describe the negotiations as advanced, with Elliott viewed as Corberán’s leading option to strengthen his attack. Valencia see him primarily as an attacking midfielder, although his ability to operate from the right provides further flexibility.
One complication is that the La Liga club reportedly need to create room in their squad before completing the deal.
Regular Football
For Elliott, regular football has become essential. Last season’s Aston Villa loan turned into something of a nightmare.
He made only nine appearances across all competitions and played just 277 minutes after Villa stopped selecting him before triggering a reported £35million obligation to buy. In the Premier League, Elliott managed only four appearances, one start and 112 minutes.

Returning to Liverpool offered hope of a fresh start under Andoni Iraola. Elliott started Iraola’s opening two pre-season games and publicly reiterated his love for his boyhood club, but his absence from Liverpool’s opening Premier League squads has made his position increasingly clear.
The situation is particularly intriguing because Elliott is entering the final year of his Liverpool contract. Unless an extension is agreed before any loan, the midfielder could potentially leave Anfield for nothing next summer.
That would represent a surprisingly quiet ending for a player who has accumulated 149 Liverpool appearances, 15 goals and 21 assists, and who was named Player of the Tournament as England won the 2025 European Under-21 Championship.
A year ago, Elliott needed a loan to accelerate his Liverpool career. Instead, it stalled it.
Valencia now represents something different, a chance to hit the reset button, become a central figure again and remind everyone why he was once considered one of Liverpool’s brightest young talents.
