Liverpool have reportedly moved to the front of the queue in the race to sign one of Mexico’s brightest young talents, Gilberto Mora, with the club exploring a pre-contract agreement ahead of his 18th birthday in October.

Liverpool Leading the Race

According to reports via TNT Sports Mexico, several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal, have been monitoring the highly-rated attacking midfielder.

Liverpool are understood to be showing the strongest interest, with discussions already taking place with Liga MX side Club Tijuana over a deal that would secure Mora’s long-term future.

FIFA Regulations Rules

Under FIFA regulations governing the international transfer of minors, players generally cannot complete an overseas transfer until they turn 18 unless they qualify under specific exceptions. That means Mora cannot officially join Liverpool until October, but a pre-contract agreement would allow the club to secure his signature before rival clubs have the opportunity to act.

Rising Star in Mexican Football

Mora has emerged as one of the standout teenagers in Mexican football. Comfortable operating as a central attacking midfielder, he possesses impressive technical ability, close control in tight spaces and the vision to unlock compact defences. His intelligence between the lines and composure in possession have drawn comparisons to some of the country’s finest creative midfielders.

Despite his young age, Mora has already shown maturity beyond his years with Club Tijuana, demonstrating the confidence and decision-making that top European scouts value.

His performances have also earned recognition at youth international level with Mexico, reinforcing the belief that he has the potential to become a senior national team regular in the coming years.

Liverpool Plan for Future

For Liverpool, the pursuit reflects a broader commitment to building a squad capable of competing at the highest level for years to come. Bringing in emerging talents before they become global stars has become an increasingly important part of recruitment across Europe’s elite clubs, and Mora appears to fit that profile perfectly.

Competition remains fierce, and interest from Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal ensures Liverpool will need to move decisively if they hope to finalise an agreement.

While nothing has been completed, the Reds are currently viewed as the club best positioned to secure one of the most exciting young prospects in North American football.
