Liverpool’s goalkeeper plans could be about to take a dramatic late window turn. With Giorgi Mamardashvili attracting interest from Nottingham Forest, the Reds have already lined up a potential successor.

Liverpool’s transfer window could be heading for one final twist, with the Reds making contact with Genk over highly-rated teenage goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans as Giorgi Mamardashvili attracts interest from Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool Make Contact With Genk
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have now made official club-to-club contact with Genk for 18-year-old Brughmans. The Reds are assessing whether to bring the Belgian to Anfield immediately should Mamardashvili depart, or structure a deal that would see him arrive in 2027.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri initially revealed Liverpool’s interest, reporting that the 2.00m-tall goalkeeper has been identified as a potential replacement for Mamardashvili. Bayern Munich have also reportedly been monitoring the teenager.
It is another example of Liverpool looking beyond the immediate future. Brughmans only turned 18 this summer but has already forced his way into Genk’s senior set-up after developing through their academy.

The Belgian is certainly difficult to miss. Standing at around 6ft 7in, Brughmans possesses the physical frame of a goalkeeper considerably further into his career.
He has made four Belgian Pro League appearances in 2026/27, playing 360 minutes and recording one clean sheet. FotMob currently lists him with seven saves, while his distribution numbers include an impressive 51.6 per cent accuracy from long passes.
His performances at youth level also offer encouragement. FBref records a save percentage of 67.9 per cent across 21 appearances for Jong Genk in one section of his 2025/26 campaign, while another 10-match sample produced an excellent 80.6 per cent save rate.

The sudden movement comes amid uncertainty surrounding Mamardashvili. Nottingham Forest have reportedly approached Liverpool to discuss the Georgian’s availability after having an offer rejected for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Mamardashvili joined Liverpool permanently in 2025 following his £29m move from Valencia and made 20 appearances in all competitions last season, keeping three clean sheets.
Selling him just one year later would represent a significant change of direction.
Yet Brughmans would fit Liverpool’s increasingly familiar recruitment strategy: identify elite potential early and move before the rest of Europe does.
