Liverpool’s move for Yankuba Minteh looked dead and buried but in the final hours of the transfer window, the Reds have suddenly thrown the door wide open again.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Yankuba Minteh appears to have been dragged back from the brink, with fresh reports claiming the Reds have reopened negotiations with Brighton just days before the transfer deadline.
Fresh Negotiations Underway
Gambian journalist Foday Manneh, who has been closely following the 22-year-old’s situation, reported on Sunday that Liverpool and Brighton have reactivated talks, with the clubs discussing a new price and negotiations now active over a possible agreement.
That represents a significant change after Liverpool appeared to have hit a brick wall in their attempts to prise Minteh away from the Amex.

Liverpool initially saw a £50million offer rejected, before Sky Sports reported Brighton also turned down an improved £60m bid. Brighton have reportedly been seeking considerably more, with figures around £80m previously mentioned.
The latest development, however, suggests there could finally be movement in the two clubs’ valuations.
Minteh is understood to be a player Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola admires enormously, with Manneh reporting that the winger is Iraola’s preferred option as Liverpool search for additional attacking reinforcements. Ismaila Sarr has also been considered.
Minteh Wants Liverpool
There is certainly little doubt over Minteh’s feelings about a potential Anfield switch. In an interview conducted before Liverpool’s bids emerged, the Gambia international said Liverpool were the club that would “suit me really well”, while also revealing his relationship with former Reds star Sadio Mané.

The major complication remains his fitness. Minteh suffered an ankle injury during Brighton’s pre-season and is expected to remain unavailable for several weeks.
Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler recently confirmed the problem and admitted the club would have to monitor how his recovery develops.
That hasn’t killed Liverpool’s interest, though. The winger has already accumulated 66 Premier League appearances and nine goals since Brighton signed him from Newcastle United for around £30m in 2024.
His explosive pace, one-v-one ability and preference for operating from the right could provide Iraola with exactly the profile Liverpool have been searching for.
Only hours earlier, reports suggested the deal was effectively dead and could instead be revisited in January. Now the picture has changed again.
With the 1st September deadline approaching, Liverpool and Brighton are seemingly back at the negotiating table. After two rejected bids and weeks of uncertainty, Minteh to Anfield suddenly looks alive once more.
