Liverpool are tracking Borussia Dortmund's rising star Mathis Albert as the young American talent is attracting interest from some of Europe's elite clubs.
Liverpool have once again been linked with attacking reinforcement, with their search for more wide players, as the Reds look to set themselves up for a period of success in the years to come.
As is often the case with LFC's recruitment strategy, players are brought in who are less well-known and not established top-level performers.
They then grow and develop under the guidance of the Merseyside club, and eventually break into the first team.
Players like Rio Ngumoha, Trey Nyoni and even the recent example of Giovanni Leoni are all players brought into the club during their teenage years, and by developing them, they become perfect fits for the way the club want to play football.

Who is Mathis Albert?
The American winger spent much of his younger years in the LA Galaxy academy, quickly establishing himself as a bright talent coming out of the States.
This subsequently earned him a move to European football, as he joined the Borussia Dortmund academy in 2024.
For the Under 19 set up, he scored 15 goals in 41 games, which caught the eye of the Under 21 side.
So, aged just 16, Albert made his debut for the U21's, and in eight games he scored three goals, numbers made even more impressive when considering the age difference between him and some of the others player on the pitch.
These performances from the left winger were starting to attract attention from other clubs, so Dortmund were quick to give Mathis Albert a chance in the first team.
In April 2026, he had his first Bundesliga appearance, coming off the bench for the final few minutes of a 4-0 thumping v SC Freiburg.
This made him officially the youngest American player to ever play in the Bundesliga, a record previously held by Giovanni Reyna.
That leads us to right now, where Albert has played 20 minutes for Dortmund in the German top flight, but with several clubs reportedly circling, Liverpool looks like they want to be part of the discussion.
What Has Been Reported?
According to BILD, Liverpool and Arsenal are monitoring the situation regarding Mathis Albert, ahead of a potential move next summer.
The report goes on to say that the American wonderkid is also of interest to Manchester City, but a price tag is yet to be named.
Would Albert Suit Iraola Ball?
The short answer to this is yes. Mathis Albert plays with the energy and high tempo that would slot in perfectly with what Andoni Iraola demands from his wingers for 90 minutes.

And the thought that Iraola could have both Albert and Ngumoha as his two wingers, plus the likes of Munoz, Barcola and Gakpo all to come into the side as well, would be a fantastic selection headache for the head coach.
