Key defender Leny Yoro faces fitness doubts as Harry Maguire returns from suspension. Who does Michael Carrick have available for him as Manchester United face Brentford on Monday night?
Manchester United were able to return to winning ways under Michael Carrick on Saturday evening, after a brilliant Bruno Fernandes cross was finished off in style by Matheus Cunha against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The 1-0 win over Liam Rosenior's men signalled United's first win over Chelsea in London in over six years, and was also Michael Carrick's 8th win in 12 games since becoming head coach for the remainder of the season.
Next up, a huge clash awaits the Reds back at Old Trafford as they welcome Brentford to Manchester – a side who have haunted United since their promotion to the Premier League in 2021.
Brentford have been brilliant under Keith Andrews this season and sit on 48 points – level with Chelsea – although they have drawn their last five games in a row. Having defeated United 3-1 earlier this season, Brentford pose a significant threat.
Leny Yoro
What happened: Having started six fixtures in a row under Carrick, centre-back Leny Yoro missed the trip to London on Saturday after suffering an injury in training.
What was said: “Hopefully it’s only [a] small [issue] but he’s obviously not ready for tonight,” Carrick said before kick-off at Stamford Bridge.
Possible return date: Monday, 27 April – Brentford (H).
Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu
What happened: Patrick Dorgu has missed the last three or so months of action with a hamstring injury, but is back on grass training with individual coaches.
What was said: “Patrick’s not [ready] no,” Carrick said on Friday. “He’s going well, he's rehabbing well, he's kind of on track, but he’s not with us in terms of training yet.
"But he's back on the pitch, as I've already said, so that's positive, that he's doing really well."
Possible return date: Beginning of May.
Lisandro Martínez
What happened: Lisandro Martínez was sent off for violent conduct during United's loss against Leeds after he was deemed to have pulled Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair. He has served one match of a three-game ban after United's appeal failed.
What was said: "We didn't agree with it, it's obvious how I felt after the game, and I still feel that way now," Carrick said. "I don't want to go into it now; it is what it is. We have to accept it and move on."
Possible return date: Saturday, 9 May – Sunderland (A).
Harry Maguire
What happened: Harry Maguire has missed United's last two games due to suspension after being handed a further one-game ban for being charged with improper conduct following his red card against Bournemouth.
He is now available for selection, having served these two bans against Leeds United and Chelsea.
What was said: "To be honest, there's not much to react to," Carrick said last week. "I'm disappointed, of course. We've had a few reasons to be disappointed over the last few weeks. We have to move on because the decision has been made."
Expected return date: Monday, 27 April – Brentford (H).
Matthijs de Ligt
What happened: Matthijs de Ligt has missed every game since the end of November with an unknown back problem.
What was said: “Treatment and rehab,” Carrick said earlier this month when asked about De Ligt's workload.
“The reason he didn’t come [to the training camp in Ireland] is he’s not quite on the grass. Patrick came back because he’s further on, but Matta isn’t quite at this stage yet.
“So it was important for him to continue his rehab, really, and try and get him back. There’s nothing else around it.”
Possible return date: Unknown
