Manchester United are preparing for their second Premier League match of the season against newly-promoted Ipswich Town, after losing 2-0 on the opening day. 

Hull City, who were promoted through the playoffs, made United look like the newly-promoted side last weekend, and Michael Carrick will be keen to ensure that does not happen again. 

Since the match, Manchester United have signed Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion, who joins as the most natural defensive midfielder at the club. 

He could miss out against Ipswich, though, as Roundtable cover the full injury updates at Old Trafford. 

What happened: Amad missed the Hull City match after featuring in Manchester United's final pre-season game against AC Milan. 

What's been said: Roundtable understands that Amad could be out for up to six weeks after picking up an injury in training. 

Potential return date: Saturday, 10 October, vs Tottenham Hotspur. 

What happened: Baleba suffered an ankle ligament injury during Brighton's pre-season campaign. 

What's been said: The midfielder is expected to return to full fitness before the end of September and will likely train individually before then. 

Potential return date: Saturday, 10 October, vs Tottenham Hotspur. 

What happened: Mount was withdrawn before the 20-minute mark against Paris Saint-Germain after taking a knock to the foot. He was seen walking out of the stadium without a limp but did not feature against Leeds United, AC Milan or Hull City. 

What's been said: Mount was said to be "touch and go" for Hull City, but Sam Cohen has now reported that he has trained with the Manchester United squad ahead of Ipswich Town this weekend. 

Potential return date: Sunday, 30 August, vs Ipswich Town. 

What happened: The Dutchman suffered a back injury in November 2025 and has not played since, despite Rúben Amorim claiming he could return after just one week on the sidelines. 

What's been said: De Ligt has been seen in training with Manchester United's first-team squad, although it may only be the early stages of his rehabilitation. Back injuries are not to be rushed. 

Potential return date: Late October. 

It is likely to be a very similar squad against Ipswich Town to the one against Hull City, but Michael Carrick will not settle for a very similar performance. 

If Mount is to return, Joshua Zirkzee may drop out of the squad, amid interest from Italy.
