Teenage sensation JJ Gabriel is set to exit Old Trafford, sparking a frantic race between European giants like Bayern Munich for the disgruntled academy star’s signature.
It's been over thirteen years since Manchester United last won a Premier League title, a solemn period, as the Reds have won the most Premier League titles since the English top division was rebranded in 1992.
That's not to say United haven't made the effort to return to their glorious past; the closest the Reds came was in both 2017/18 under Jose Mourinho and 2020/21 under Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
Since then, United have succumbed to a period of inadequacy, with six managers taking charge of the club since 2021; it seems the Reds are stuck in some sort of rut.
One United youngster has expressed his desire to leave the club as soon as possible, and his expected departure is thought to be due to his desire to win titles, which he feels he cannot do at United.
JJ Gabriel is guaranteed to leave
15 -year-old superstar JJ Gabriel has chosen to part ways with United following a string of speculation surrounding issues with his agent, who is also his father.
Gabriel joined United's academy in 2022 and has excelled in all age groups with the club, especially in his most recent campaign with the under-18s, which saw him named Premier League 2 player of the season and earn his first senior appearance.
His exceptional performances had earned him a place in the under-21s this season before his decision to forgo further development with United.
Bild has reported that the decision has been made that Gabriel will 'definitely leave' the Reds by next summer at the latest. He turns 16 on October 6 and will be eligible to sign his first professional contract in Europe.
Many top European clubs are queuing up for the chance to sign the 15-year-old after relationships with United broke down.
Bayern comment on Gabriel situation
Bayern Munich is just one of the many European giants vying to secure Gabriel's signature. The Bavarians' sporting director spoke to the press about their interest in Gabriel.
“I don’t talk about players who are under contract with other clubs," Christoph Freund recently said. "We know the player because he is very, very talented, an exceptional talent.”
Gabriel turns 16 in October, which will officially allow him to sign an agent. Ali Barat is expected to be hired and will be allowed to facilitate a move for the attacker.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain are also potential suitors. All four clubs named in the report as potential destinations for Gabriel have won a domestic competition in recent years, something United have not done.
