When Bruno Fernandes publicly called out Michael Carrick for his tactics after the 4-1 loss in Como, it felt like a new low for Manchester United.

Since the Glazer family purchased the club in 2005, there have been many low points, but you would do well to find one in which the club captain and another first-team player went against the manager and directors within weeks of each other.

Fernandes was an unused substitute in Manchester United's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon – a game that will be remembered more for the fans' reaction to Michael Carrick and the players walking down the tunnel than for what happened on the pitch.

At the time of writing, Carrick remains in charge at Old Trafford and has reported for training on Tuesday morning, though the situation could rapidly change.

Manchester United have been linked with Antonio Conte, Eddie Howe, and Julian Nagelsmann in recent days, which could be enough for Bruno Fernandes to seek a move away from the club.

Fernandes "increasingly unhappy" at Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes moved to Old Trafford when Ole Gunnar Solskjær was in the dugout. Since then, he has played under Michael Carrick (interim), Ralf Rangnick (interim), Erik ten Hag, Ruud Van Nistelrooy (interim), Rúben Amorim, Darren Fletcher (interim), and Michael Carrick again.

Counting both of Michael Carrick's stints, that is eight managers since January 2020, with a ninth looking set to be appointed before Christmas.

With that in mind, Calcio Mercato has reported that the Portuguese international is becoming "increasingly unhappy" at Old Trafford, noting his post-Como criticism as significant.

Carrick insisted that Fernandes' non-appearance against Bournemouth was purely down to "football decisions", though it is difficult not to read more into it.

Rúben Amorim looks for reunion at AC Milan

As per Calcio Mercato, Rúben Amorim is keen on a reunion with Bruno Fernandes at AC Milan and could explore a January move if he becomes available.

Fernandes' contract expires next summer, but it has been widely reported that Manchester United have the option to extend it by a further season.

Contract talks seemed to be on the agenda during the summer, but they never progressed, and Fernandes could leave Old Trafford in 2027.

United may be looking for a fresh start without Fernandes, but he will not be an easy man to replace, despite his poor form to start this term.

Last season, the club captain scored nine and assisted 22 in 37 appearances. He has played 338 matches for Manchester United.
