Diogo Dalot made his 250th Manchester United appearance in a 1-0 loss at home to Manchester City, becoming just the third Portuguese player to achieve the feat. 

He moved to Manchester from FC Porto in 2018 under Jose Mourinho, who famously branded him as the "future" of the club. 

United's No.2 did not have his best game up against Antoine Semenyo, but a poor performance from him is rare. Dalot has been the most consistent United defender for some time, pointing to his quarter-century achievement at Old Trafford. 

Of his 250 appearances, 218 have been from the start, despite playing in a range of positions. Since returning from his loan at AC Milan, the natural right-back has been deployed at right-wing-back, left-wing-back and right wing, as well as his usual position. 

Speaking before the game, Dalot revealed his pride in reaching the landmark: "It is a huge honour to continue writing history with this club. I arrived here very young, hoping to stay long enough to experience moments and achievements like these.

"Reaching 250 appearances for Manchester United, in a game as special as the Manchester derby, makes this milestone even more meaningful."

The result will be Dalot's priority focus, especially after the VAR controversy involving Erling Haaland's goal, but he is keen to take the Red Devils back to their former glory. 

"This club is built to compete at the highest level, in the biggest matches and for the most important trophies, and I am proud to have helped Manchester United along this journey," he said. 

"But the work is far from finished, and this landmark is another step in the journey to the ultimate goal: winning titles wearing the Manchester United shirt."

Manchester United will be looking to bounce back after their disappointing defeat at home against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. 

United's start to the campaign has not been what fans or Michael Carrick would have hoped. But they have the leaders in the squad to turn their season around. 

The 27-year-old has become a key figure in the dressing room at Old Trafford and has taken on leadership responsibilities after wearing the captain's armband on some occasions when Bruno Fernandes is absent. 

Dalot will continue to start as Carrick looks to turn around Manchester United's start to the campaign, with Noussair Mazraoui seemingly the backup option on the right side of defence. 

The Red Devils face Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday evening in the Carabao Cup, before a trip to Craven Cottage to fight Fulham in their final game before the international break. 

Carlos Baleba looks to make his United debut after the break, with the club targeting a return against Leeds United after the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, who United beat in pre-season.
