Three European clubs are said to be interested in signing Bruno Fernandes, who has a £57m release clause available to clubs outside of England.
Bruno Fernandes is now going into his eighth season at Manchester United, and he is only getting better.
Fernandes could have left United last summer, with Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal having made a big-money offer to sign the former Sporting midfielder. Fernandes, however, decided to stay in Manchester.
That decision proved to be a good one. The Portuguese playmaker registered 21 Premier League assists last season, the most ever by a player in a single Premier League season. It becomes even more impressive when you consider he played in a deeper role until Ruben Amorim was dismissed in January.
He is the heartbeat of this United team. Everything goes through him, and it's hard to imagine this United team without his brilliance.
Serie A giants and Galatasaray eye move for Fernandes
After such an impressive season, various clubs are said to be eyeing a move for Fernandes. He has a release clause in his contract worth £57 million. That clause can only be activated by clubs outside of England.
According to the BBC, Juventus, AC Milan and Galatasaray are all understood to be keen on signing Fernandes.
Fernandes' contract has entered its final year. There is an option to extend by a further season, but as of now, there is no agreement between United and Fernandes over a new deal.
Despite interest from Italy and Turkey, it is thought Fernandes' preference is to stay at United, potentially for the remainder of his career.
How would United replace Fernandes?
While Fernandes will likely stay at Old Trafford this summer, he is almost 32 years of age, and a time will come, maybe in the not too distant future, that United will have to find a replacement for him.
If United want someone who is Premier League proven, Morgan Gibbs-White stands out as a top candidate. The English midfielder has established himself as one of the best creative midfielders in the league over the last few seasons and could be looking to take the next step in his career soon. He was close to joining Tottenham Hotspur last season, but that transfer fell through.
Outside of England, Como's Nico Paz is also an interesting candidate. The Argentine midfielder, who came through Real Madrid's academy, has been excellent over the last two seasons. He registered 13 goals and 7 assists in 40 games last season in all competitions.
Real Madrid retain a buy-back clause, and they may well look to bring him back to the Bernébau in the future. That could make a potential move to Old Trafford difficult.
