Manchester United Women return to action against West Ham United in the Women's Super League on Sunday afternoon, having taken an impressive 10-1 win in the Cup on Wednesday evening. 

Eva Olid's side saw off Sheffield United, with Mared Griffiths scoring a hat-trick on her first start and Jess Simpson netting an Olympico goal. Scarlett Hill also featured, becoming the 20th Manchester United graduate since the team's rebirth.  

United could make several changes to the team which beat Sheffield United, given that most of the players who impressed against Arsenal did not start in mid-week. 

Olid is still searching for her first win in the WSL, having replaced Marc Skinner as head coach during the summer. 

Manchester United Women return home to face West Ham at 13:00 on Sunday afternoon, with Olid claiming she knows exactly what her side must do to beat the Hammers. 

"We still hadn't won a match, so I could have used the same starting line-up as Sunday [against Arsenal]," Olid said on the 10-1 win in mid-week. "But I trust these young players and the other players who started to put in a good performance.

"They are attacking players who I know can offer a lot, and I was confident that we would perform well."

Olid will be hoping her players can carry the momentum from the 10-1 win into the weekend, but she is looking for a more balanced performance than the Sheffield United win. 

She continued: "Sunday is an opportunity to show that we can dominate against a really good side and have the confidence to play with the ball.

"I expect a balance between the match against Arsenal and the match against Sheffield United: the same hard work in defence that we showed against Arsenal, together with the confidence on the ball that we had against Sheffield United.

"If we combine both performances, it will be perfect for the team."

While the start to the campaign has not been easy, Eva Olid stressed she had felt the support from the fans and his hoping for more of the same on Sunday. 

"Every time [we play there], it feels more like home," she said. "It is nice to play there with the fans behind us. We feel them and the support they give. Although the first match was not as we expected, we felt the fans' support."

In both the WSL and the Premier League, new managers often come in with new systems and styles of play which excite the fan base. However, some change their principles after a poor start at their new side – Erik ten Hag, for example. 

It is fine to transition to a new league and adapt some of the principles to suit the division, but ripping up tactics makes the decision-makers at the football club seem foolish. Not to mention making the manager look out of their depth.  

Eva Olid must be careful not to make the same mistake as those who have come before her at Manchester United – her style of play and tactics can work in the WSL with time. 

She has not been backed in the transfer market, like Skinner before her, but has the ability in the squad, and trust in the youngsters, to get the best out of a bad situation. And that could start with a good performance and three points against West Ham on Sunday.
