According to David Ornstein, Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 of their 115 charges relating to breaches of Premier League financial regulations.
Once known as Manchester United's noisy neighbours, City became the powerhouse in the Premier League, winning eight Premier League titles since 2011.
On the other side of the city, United have fallen off a rather large cliff since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford in 2013, although they did manage some second-place finishes under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
Michael Carrick led United to third place last term, but has had a difficult start to the campaign, with just five points from games, including a defeat to 10-man Manchester City.
While the punishment is yet to be decided, Manchester United could be hugely affected by the Premier League's final outcome.
How Man Utd are affected by City verdict
Until the Premier League publish a punishment for Enzo Maresca's side, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what will happen, but some fans have hoped that they could be stripped of their titles.
David de Gea and Brandon Williams have both taken to social media, with the legendary goalkeeper saying: "So, let's talk. How many Premier League titles have I won, then?"
Manchester United finished second in the Premier League in 2011/12, 2017/18, and 2020/21, so they could add more titles to their trophy cabinet if City are stripped of their competition victories, though that feels unlikely.
That is not the only way United are affected, though. Omar Berrada, Stephen Torpey and Jason Wilcox all worked at Manchester City in recent seasons.
It is unclear whether the Premier League will push to punish individuals involved in City's charges, but if it does, United have several decision-makers who could be in a precarious position.
Man Utd forced to wait
On social media, there has been a suggestion that clubs could look to Manchester City, given that their success has prevented others from receiving higher prize funds and other financial bonuses.
However, if any club do look to take legal action, they will have to wait until the Premier League have reached their final decision, which could be some time away if City appeal the result, which they are expected to do.
In the meantime, Manchester United need to focus on improving on the pitch. The start to the campaign has not been good enough, and there is still an opportunity to compete at the top of the Premier League.
