The Ivorian international rejoins first-team sessions at Carrington, providing Michael Carrick a vital tactical boost as the Red Devils struggle to rediscover their winning form following a turbulent opening.

Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the 2026/27 campaign, with just two wins from their opening seven fixtures across all competitions.

The Reds opened the season with a defeat to Hull City before producing their biggest result of the campaign so far, beating Ipswich Town 5-2 thanks to a Bruno Fernandes hat-trick. A 4-0 win over Sabah FK in the Champions League followed, but United have struggled to maintain that momentum.

A 2-2 draw with Everton came before consecutive home defeats to Manchester City and Brighton. United surrendered a 2-0 lead against Brighton before losing the tie and being knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Their final game before the international break ended in another draw, with Michael Carrick's side held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham. Lisandro Martínez's own goal put the hosts behind, but Matheus Cunha's late strike ensured United left Craven Cottage with a point.

Sources: Amad returns to United training

It has been no secret that one reason for United's mixed form has been the absence of Amad, who has missed the competitive season so far due to an injury sustained in training.

After playing the whole pre-season on the right flank, with Bryan Mbeumo up front, Amad's injury forced the latter to move to the right wing with Matheus Cunha playing as striker, a pairing that has brought criticism so far this campaign.

With Roundtable initially breaking the news in early August that Amad would be out for around six weeks due to his injury, it has now been revealed that the Ivorian international is back in training on grass.

Roundtable understands that the 24-year-old is making positive progress in recovery, is doing grass work, while pushing hard to make his return to action.

Sources state that Amad was with the group who didn't go on duty training today, although there is no clear scheduled return date just yet.

This news comes not long after Amad himself hinted on Instagram at his imminent return to action.

Will Carrick benefit from multiple injury returns?

It remains to be seen whether Amad will be fit to return by the time Manchester United welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford on Saturday, October 10, but his latest hint suggests he could be.

He may not be the only player nearing a return next month, either. Carlos Baleba, the £65 million summer signing from Brighton, is yet to make his debut after suffering an ankle injury during pre-season, but was named on the bench for the 1-1 draw against Fulham before the international break.

Although he was an unused substitute, Baleba's inclusion in the matchday squad, combined with three weeks of training during the break, should put him in contention to finally make his debut. His energy and physicality in midfield could provide a major boost to Michael Carrick's side.

Matthijs de Ligt could also return next month, although his timeline is less certain. The Netherlands international has not played for 11 months after suffering a back injury that eventually required surgery, but has been training since the summer.

His return to the starting XI will likely be more gradual than Amad's or Baleba's, but United's defensive struggles and De Ligt's strong form before his injury mean his comeback could provide Carrick with another important foundation to build around.
