A breakthrough deal secures the young star's future. Kobbie Mainoo is set to ink a massive contract, cementing his integral role in Manchester United's midfield.
Kobbie Mainoo has seen a brilliant resurgence at Manchester United since the arrival of Michael Carrick. The young Stockportian has reportedly earned himself a new contract at Old Trafford with a significant wage boost.
After starting only one game under Ruben Amorim, Mainoo has started in 11 of Carrick's 12 games at the wheel, becoming an integral part of the midfield trio alongside Casemiro and captain Bruno Fernandes.
Mainoo shone at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening against Chelsea as United continues their push for Champions League football, earning praise from Carrick following the 1-0 victory.
Mainoo covered every blade of grass in a tough battle against Liam Rosenior's midfield, and his elite performances have earned him an extended stay at the club.
Verbal agreement in place for new Mainoo contract
According to journalist Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun, United have verbally agreed a new five-year contract for Mainoo, which will see the youngster earn £150,000-a-week, a deserved present for the man who celebrated his 21st birthday on Sunday.
The deal is likely to span five seasons, ending in June 2031. United often insert the right to extend contracts by a further season, particularly for their high-value assets.
Mainoo's latest renewal came in 2023 under Erik ten Hag, who introduced Mainoo into the first team at only 17-years-old. However, a rough spell under Amorim led the midfielder to request a loan move due to a lack of minutes.
The youngster also re-earned his place in Thomas Tuchel's England squad thanks to his performances. With the 2026 World Cup fast approaching, United fans will be hopeful that the academy graduate can get a seat on the plane.
Mainoo will be looking to make it into a highly congested midfield with the likes of potential Manchester Untied signings, Adam Wharton and Eliot Anderson also in contention.
Mainoo must keep his feet on the ground
Recent years have seen issues surrounding egos and personality around the Manchester United squad, most recently with Alejandro Garnacho whose attitude earned him a spot on the transfer list, moving to Chelsea in the previous summer window.
Whilst Mainoo has always shown maturity and composure both on and off the pitch, this £150,000-a-week contract must not get to his head.
With the midfield looking like a priority in the summer with the announced departure of Casemiro and probable sale of Manuel Ugarte, Mainoo's importance in the squad is arguably at the highest it has ever been.
For now, United's attention needs to stay on Brentford, who come to Old Trafford on Monday night with the hopes of spoiling Carrick's push for Champions League football by doing the double over the Red Devils, and Mainoo is likely to be a key role in the match.
