Manchester United have stepped up their summer business by confirming three new arrivals this week, with the club making midfield reinforcement a clear priority following Casemiro's departure and Manuel Ugarte's season-ending ACL injury.

Having seen a deal for Éderson fall apart after the Brazilian failed his medical, United quickly shifted their focus elsewhere. Their response saw Andrey Santos arrive from Chelsea in a £50 million deal before the club completed one of the window's biggest surprises, triggering the £35 million release clause in Youri Tielemans' Aston Villa contract.

Despite bringing in two central midfielders, the recruitment drive is not expected to stop there. With Champions League football returning to Old Trafford next season, Michael Carrick is understood to be keen on adding another option in the middle of the park to strengthen competition and provide greater squad depth.

After missing out on several high-profile midfield targets earlier in the window, supporters will be encouraged by the club's ability to secure two proven additions without paying some of the inflated fees seen elsewhere in the market.

As a result, Newcastle United's Lewis Hall has been identified as United's main left-back target this summer, with the 21-year-old having seemingly fallen out with Eddie Howe after being dropped from first-team action, and playing out of position at right-back when he did feature, which many credit to Thomas Tuchel, rather surprisingly not calling up Hall to the England squad for the World Cup.

However, Manchester United face competition from Chelsea, who are undergoing a major summer rebuild of their own, having sold Marc Cucurella and reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa over a £117 million deal for Morgan Rogers.

As reported by TEAMtalk, Chelsea continue to monitor Lewis Hall's situation at Newcastle United and could look to tempt the 21-year-old back to the side where he made his breakthrough into senior football, making 12 senior appearances for Chelsea before making the move to the North East.

Despite being a Cobham graduate and widely regarded as one of the best players produced by Chelsea's academy, Hall, like many promising talents, was sold to Newcastle in 2023 for £28 million, plus £7 million in add-ons.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United are seemingly the main two clubs expressing serious interest in the 21-year-old, with the outlet reporting that the England international prefers a move to Old Trafford, rather than a return to Stamford Bridge.

Previous reports indicated that Michael Carrick was pushing United to sign Hall, with the left-back seeing the opportunity to work under Carrick and establish himself at United as a very attractive prospect.

A move will not be easy for either side, as Newcastle, who have already lost Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, with captain Bruno Guimarães reportedly pushing for a move to Arsenal, are likely to demand a very high fee, as they will not want to sell yet another key first-team player.
