Do Man Utd Need Another Striker?
With the international break halting the season for three weeks, Manchester United have now got time to assess the disappointing start to the season, with the Red Devils sitting in 12th.
Michael Carrick's side has tasted victory only twice in all competitions, after beating Ipswich 5-2 and smashing Sabah 4-0 in the Champions League.
As of now, the Red Devils are three games without a win after losing to a 10-man Manchester City, being dumped out of the cup by Brighton, and clinging to a point in the final few minutes against Fulham.
It's no surprise that, given the poor start to the season, the club has begun to be linked to potential January signings.
Brobbey is valued at £50 million
In the summer, Manchester United were constantly linked to signing a potential striker to compete with Benjamin Šeško, who has struggled for fitness at the start of the season so far, and given that Joshua Zirkzee has been down the pecking order.
Matheus Cunha has featured as the nine so far for the majority of the game, but the attacking fluidity the club had last season has yet to be replicated.
According to Flashscore sources, Manchester United are among some of the clubs interested in potentially securing Brian Brobbey's services in January. After a stellar World Cup where he scored three goals in four games, and now off the back of a hat-trick against Man City, it is no surprise to see the club linked to the Dutchman once again.
Flashscore reported that Brobbey would be valued at around £50 million, but it could be more given the interest is there for a January move.
However, according to Football Insider, Sunderland are ready to stand firm in January to keep their prized talisman.
January reinforcements are needed
While a move for Brobbey seems unlikely in January, given Sunderland's leverage to keep the player unless it's for a massive price, Manchester United need to sign reinforcements in the winter transfer window.
When Zirkzee comes on, he often drops too deep, similar to Cunha, which therefore leaves the club without a major focal point to really create an impact in the final 20 minutes of games. Especially in recent times, when you would expect the team to go on the attack in the final moments of games, the side becomes stagnant.
While this is a lot more well-known, a left-back signing is going to be vital going forward if Patrick Dorgu or Harry Amass do not become the preferred deputies for Luke Shaw. While Noussair Mazraoui can play there, there is a risk he gets injured, and the club is left without a natural replacement for Diogo Dalot.
Especially as loan deals, there may not be glamorous names available, but there will be serviceable players who can fill the gaps we failed to fill in the summer.
