A decision about JJ Gabriel's future is expected imminently after the shock request to cancel the highly-rated youngster's youth registration at Manchester United, with the teenager widely regarded as one of the brightest talents to come through the club's Carrington academy in recent years.

His rapid development has generated excitement within the club, with the English forward scoring 23 goals in 23 U18 Premier League appearances at just 15 years of age.

After being named the U18 Premier League Player of the Season for the 2025-26 season, reports stated that Gabriel was in line to be named in the matchday squad for United's Carabao Cup fixture against Brighton, and would have been the youngest player to ever represent the club if he featured.

However, Gabriel's request scuppered these plans and changed things dramatically. Instead of potentially achieving a historic feat, the forward was left out of the squad and hasn't featured in any game since the U19S' 5-0 win over Sabah in the UEFA Youth League on the 10th of September.

JJ Gabriel decision expected imminently

Manchester United promptly denied JJ Gabriel's request to cancel his registration, but, having turned 16 earlier in October, he could sign for another club on the continent due to the fact that he holds a European passport, which opens a loophole that means United could be powerless to do anything to keep him at the club.

Reports indicate that the 16-year-old's decision is expected imminently, with Real Madrid said to have made a significant offer and to be willing to agree to the terms presented by Gabriel's camp.

Sport claims that the future of JJ Gabriel is set to be decided in the coming days, with the outlet reporting that "the moment of truth is approaching" for the teenager as he looks to make his next move in his young career.

It's reported that Real Madrid are willing to meet Gabriel's demands of an £8.5 million deal over three years, with bonuses for his family and agent included

Man Utd did everything to keep Gabriel

The outlet also states that Manchester United are resigned to Gabriel's exit, and will most likely lose their gem for virtually nothing, as they will only be entitled to FIFA training compensation, which is estimated to be as little as £350,000.

If Gabriel were to move to a Premier League rival, the club would have been expecting more than £3 million, plus a 20% sell-on clause, which, while better than nothing, is still very little given the talent United have on their hands.

While United will obviously be extremely disappointed that they may have let such a talent go, you can't say that they didn't try their best to keep the 16-year-old at the club, as United had mapped out a clear development plan for the youngster.

After meeting Sir Alex Ferguson and Ruben Amorim, the club reportedly told Gabriel he could become the club's future face, and he regularly participated in Michael Carrick's training sessions, with a first-team debut feeling inevitable after his pre-season appearances.

Where things started to break down was the fact that Gabriel's camp had basically demanded that the youngster play at least 20 minutes in United's games against Sabah, Brighton and Bournemouth, with Gabriel's representatives demanding game time before starting talks about a scholarship deal.
