Fiorentina enter Zirkzee race
Ever since last summer, Joshua Zirkzee has been on the verge of a return to Serie A. Initially, Roma was always linked with the player, and he almost moved in January had the Italian side not signed Donyell Malen and Manchester United not sacked Ruben Amorim.
Again, this summer, the likes of Napoli, Juventus and Como have always been sniffing around the Dutchman who signed for United in 2024. The end of last season, and even the game against Hull, showed how far down the pecking order the player is, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo preferred over him in Benjamin Sesko's absence.
Matte Morreto has revealed that Zirkzee has been told he is out of the plans at United, with the club open to moving him on.
According to Morreto, following this news, Fiorentina sporting director Fabio Paratici has enquired with Zirkzee's agent over the finances linked with a potential deal.
This comes after Fiorentina look to replace Moise Kean, who is reportedly refusing to train, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, as he wants to move to Como.
Which strikers could United target?
All summer, Danny Welbeck was seen as the ideal signing for Manchester United to make as a backup with excellent pedigree and as a player he could learn from. But following his move to Chelsea, the club need to think outside the box.
The obvious link that may emerge is a move for Ivan Toney, who, despite being in Saudi Arabia, has continued to be called up for England, suggesting his overall quality is still there. As a loan move with the right finances, this could be a very shrewd signing, but the risk will always be whether he can adapt once again to the pace of the Premier League.
Nicolò Tresoldi is another player who offers a completely different package to Toney. The German striker is only 22 and would represent direct competition for Benjamin Sesko, which is always a good thing to have.
Another option could be to see if the club could tempt Ollie Watkins away from Aston Villa instead of allowing him to move to Al Hilal.
