After securing Champions League qualification for the first time in two seasons, Manchester United must once again prepare to take on Europe's elite, following a season without European football for the first time since the 14/15 season.
To cope with the additional games and strain on the squad next season, United will be vigilant and remain active in the summer transfer window to develop and prepare the squad for the coming season.
However, recent reports suggest that transfer activity may not be the only way Carrick is preparing his squad for next season.
Mainoo set for new midfield role
According to reports from The Sun, manager Carrick is looking to make drastic changes to United's midfield next season, aiming to create a trio that resembles Paris Saint-Germain's.
Carrick reportedly wants United to adopt a more dominant style of play heading into next season, rather than to continue with the more counterattacking style he has implemented since his arrival in January.
In order to help achieve this style of play, Carrick is set to tweak Kobbie Mainoo's role within in the team.
After a season of taking on more defensive responsibilities under Carrick and limited opportunities under Ruben Amorim, it is said that Carrick would like Mainoo to start attacking spaces in behind defences to help develop his game further.
How United can emulate PSG's midfield
With it being heavily reported that United plan to rejuvenate their midfield this summer, aiming to bring in up to three new midfielders, this could help further provide Carrick with the tools he needs to help create a 'PSG style' midfield at Man United.
United has already appeared to have agreed a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, still with the window yet to officially open, displaying United's desire to act and secure these deals fast, something the club has previously been criticized for failing to achieve.
With the club still being heavily linked to other big names, such as Matheus Fernandes and Elliot Anderson, to help further strengthen the Reds' midfield, United still appears to just be getting started in this summer's window, which we should all expect to be a busy one.
This is something shared by David Ornstein, with The Athletic journalist claiming that if were to pick who he expects to be the busiest club this summer, it would be the Reds.
