With the new season fast approaching, as the Reds prepare for their season opener against Hull in just under two weeks' time, Manchester United are beginning to run out of time, much-needed additional reinforcements ready in time for the new season.

Following the departure of Casemiro to Inter Miami and Manuel Ugarte's ACL injury, United have been able to effectively fill these gaps in the squad through the acquisitions of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

However, there are still glaring holes in the squad that are evident to see, with the squad crying out for further midfield reinforcements, as well as a new left back to act as competition for an aging and highly injury-prone Luke Shaw.

With new rumours that the departure of young Harry Amass is becoming increasingly likely, the left-back position is rapidly becoming a vital issue that needs solving for Michael Carrick's squad, with the club yet to provide an answer.

According to reports from The Times, after initially sounding out the availability of Myles Lewis-Skelly, they have now made it clear that they do not wish to pursue any deal for the Arsenal defender.

An intermediary also offered him to a number of clubs, including United, around January, for a reported £60 million fee, which United rejected.

The lack of interest from United does come as some surprise, considering the squad's desperate need for an upgrade at left back as well as their unusaully quiet window that they have had so far.

Lewis Skelly's ability to cover in midfield would also appeal to United, with the signing potentially killing two birds with one stone. Still, it appears the club has other plans in mind that have yet to be revealed.

Reports from The Athletic claim that, despite current talk of a potential move away from the Emirates, Lewis-Skelly is happy at Arsenal and is focused on establishing himself in Mikel Arteta's side, showing no signs of wanting a move elsewhere.

Albeit the rejection of a potential move for Lewis-Skelly, which could prove to be a valid, well-thought-out move from United, it will still be one that will frustrate large portions of the United faithful, as fans grow to become increasingly agitated by the lack of activity in one of the most important transfer windows United have had in recent years.

With Michael Carrick's men set to play a notably increased number of games next season after achieving Champions League football in the previous campaign, United's ranks are more in need of bolstering than ever.

The need for a left-back will likely rank highest amongst United's priority positions this window, due to likely being unable to rely upon Luke Shaw for a now elongated season, with RB Leipzig's David Raum being a name mentioned in previous days.

United may now also reconsider their midfield options following yet another injury to Mason Mount in their pre-season clash with PSG, with the club now likely to reignite their search for further midfield targets in the summer market.

Although there have not been any real concrete links to any specific targets over the last few weeks, United still appears to be in search of further options for the squad, with fans still patiently waiting for news as United's season opener away at Hull approaches ever closer
