Manchester United are looking to halt their early-season slump when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, having won just two of their opening seven games across all competitions.

The Reds started their Premier League campaign with a defeat to Hull City before responding with a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town, in which Bruno Fernandes claimed a hat-trick. They also recorded a commanding 4-0 win against Sabah FK in the Champions League, but have been unable to build on those results.

A 2-2 stalemate with Everton was followed by back-to-back home losses against Manchester City and Brighton. The Brighton defeat was particularly damaging, with United throwing away a two-goal lead before bowing out of the Carabao Cup.

Michael Carrick's men were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham in their final outing, as Matheus Cunha's late strike rescued a point after Lisandro Martínez scored an own goal.

Opposition view: What do United fans need to know?

Written by Ricky Sacks by our friends from Tottenham Hotspur's Roundtable.

Tottenham Hotspur have now gone a club-record of 47 matches in all competitions without winning after their opponents opened the scoring.

That includes drawing 11 games and losing 36, making the first goal against Manchester United even more important as Roberto De Zerbi looks to secure their first Premier League win this season.

Spurs have struggled with the mentality of going a goal down nor just under De Zerbi but also under Ange Postecoglou, Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

Tottenham have created numerous chances before falling behind in games, but their biggest issue is dealing with adversity.

As for the positives, Roberto De Zerbi outlined the need to establish the team’s identity and improve its organisation, both with and without possession, ahead of the new season.

The issue for Tottenham Hotspur is not creating chances; it’s putting the ball in the back of the net.

In terms of who United's fans should be most worried about, midfielder Dejan Kulusevski has taken a significant step toward his massively long-awaited return to competitive football after taking part in an 11-a-side training match at Hotspur Way, 513 days after he went out.

There is every chance he could be on the bench, the main danger-man if he is finally fit to start a game would be James Maddison.

Predicted Spurs starting XI: Kinsky, Udogie, Van De Ven, Van Hecke, Gray, Tonali, Betancur, Fernandes, Kudus, Savio, Solanke, Marmoush.
