It has been a rollercoaster last 18 months for Manchester United academy graduate Marcus Rashford, but his crazy saga seems to have finally settled down, with Michael Carrick welcoming him back into the squad.

It seemed this would never be the case in the summer, after the English international came off the back of an impressive loan spell at Barcelona, with the Catalonians having a reasonable buy option for Rashford, but they chose to spend double what that buyout would've been on Newcastle's Anthony Gordon.

Even after a permanent Barcelona move fell through, it still seemed unlikely that we would see a returning Rashford at Old Trafford, but as there were no takers when United offered him out at a lower price, potentially due to his extremely high wages, it opened the door to a dramatic return for the forward.

It could be seen as a blessing in disguise for the Red Devils, as they would have loved to bring in an experienced winger with a European pedigree before Carrick's debut Champions League campaign, but that was never in the budget for this year. But with Rashford's return, they may have found quite the ticket. 

Ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand has been in attendance at the club's training camp in Ireland.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he discussed how Rashford has returned to United's pre-season training camp, and Ferdinand was very complimentary, describing Rashford as a "purring Ferrari."

Ferdinand also said that "he will be like a new signing for this football club" and that Rashford has a "smile on his face and a spring in his step" as he returns to action after a year-and-a-half-long hiatus from action at Old Trafford.

With United reportedly looking at signing an extra forward option earlier this summer, Rashford's return to the Reds has given Carrick another option for the coming season without eating into the transfer budget.

Further, Bryan Mbuemo was also on topic when Ferdinand was discussing all things United pre-season.

The United legend explained that one thing that surprised him about the Cameroonian was that he is becoming "the banter man" within the group, hinting that the winger has a funny side, in contrast to the "very serious, very focused" mannerisms we see on the pitch.

This one of the more difficult decisions United have had over this hectic transfer window, but no team seems willing to take a punt on Rashford, so to at least try him out feels like the bare minimum.

The big concern for a lot of fans will be Rashford's off-the-ball attitude, which would need to change drastically to suit the way Carrick wants his wide men to ask, with Amad, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo all willing to run and press for their side.

Potentially, Rashford being coached by someone he used to play with in the very early stages of his career will help him and possibly remind him of his roots at the club, making him determined to try as hard as he can upon his return.
