Michael Carrick faces a selection headache as Benjamin Šeško resumes full training, while Mason Mount remains sidelined ahead of the season opener against newly-promoted Hull City.
Manchester United are gearing up for their first Premier League fixture of the season as the Reds eye a trip away to face newly-promoted club Hull City.
Michael Carrick's men played six fixtures across EUrope this summer as part of their pre-sesaon training programme, initially losing to Wrexham but playing brilliantly against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Rosenborg, Atletico Madrid, and Leeds,
However, a 4-2 loss against Rúben Amorim's AC Milan has left a real sting, with many pointing to the lack of intensity as a possible warning sign ahead of the start of the campaign.
United finished third in the league last season after a fantastic end to the campaign under Carrick, and will be looking to continue their momentum into the new season.
United issue triple injury update
One major positive about the pre-season tour was that the club managed to get through all six ties with almost no injruies, with the exception of Mason Mount. The English midfielder was performing well, but had to head off against PSG.
He then did not feature against Leeds or Milan, and with United back at Carrington and the squad training in front of the press and cameras on Tuesday morning, the club has confirmed that he was also not part of the group.
However, positive news comes in the form of two other players. Benjamin Šeško did not feature in pre-season at all after suffering a shin injury toward the back end of last campaign, but he was spotted in full training with the group.
Centre-back Matthijs de Ligt was also part of the pack who headed out onto the Carrington pitches, although he is not expected to return to a matchday squad until October.
Šeško being given time to recover
Šeško's inclusion in the training squad is not new. He was also part of full training while the squad had their week-long camp in Ireland, but it was decided that he did not need to be rushed back onto the pitch.
Fortunately for Šeško, United's forward depth means the striker will have plenty of time to get his fitness fully firing as he aims to better his tally of 12 goals across all competitions last campaign.
Bryan Mbeumo has had a stellar pre-season up front, collecting three goals and one assist across his six appearances, with the Cameroon international looking nimble on the wing and powerful through the middle.
Matheijs Cunha's return to the squad and Joshua Zirkzee's encouraging performances across the summer also add further depth to the striker position, suggesting that the club will be cautious with Šeško and allow him to regain full fitness at his own pace.
