Toby Collyer looks set to leave Manchester United this summer, although he has given a good account of himself during his time at Old Trafford.
The now 22-year-old joined the Red Devils in March 2022 from Brighton and Hove Albion as one of the top midfield prospects in the country.
Since then, Collyer has featured 13 times for Manchester United's first team under Erik ten Hag, Rúben Amorim and Michael Carrick. One of his more famous appearances came from the bench against Liverpool at Old Trafford, replacing Casemiro at half-time.
Last season, Collyer spent six months at West Bromwich Albion and another six months at Hull City – both in the Championship. Hull were promoted through the playoffs (and then beat United on the opening weekend of the Premier League), but Collyer only made five appearances due to injury issues.
However, his old side remain interested, with his potential price tag now revealed.
How much could Collyer leave Man Utd for?
Earlier this summer, it was reported that Harry Amass, Toby Collyer and Radek Vitek could leave Manchester United, despite featuring in pre-season. Vitek has since completed a £7 million (plus £7 million in add-ons, but Amass and Collyer remain at Old Trafford.
Amass played for the Under-21s side in their first Premier League 2 match against Ipswich Town, but Collyer did not feature, having also missed out on the squad to face Hull City last weekend. All signs point to him leaving the club this summer.
Alex Crook has reported that Hull City believe Collyer could be available for as little as £3 million this summer.
Manchester United would likely look to include a buy-back option, a sell-on clause, and matching rights if they were to sell him.
Could Collyer be a good option for Michael Carrick?
Manchester United have been looking to bolster their midfield for some time, and they finally have. Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans signed earlier in the summer, and Carlos Baleba was officially announced on Tuesday.
This leaves Michael Carrick with five senior options in the middle of the park: Baleba, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Santos and Tielemans. Tyler and Jack Fletcher are likely to feature too if they are not loaned out before the end of the transfer window.
Collyer could have been a useful option had United not signed Baleba, but now the Cameroon international is through the door, Collyer will struggle for game time.
A move away seems like the best option for all parties involved, as Manchester United prepare for their second match of the season against Ipswich Town.
