Shea Lacey has returned to pre-season duty as a member of the first-team squad, having spent the majority of last term with the Under-21s side.
Carrington has a rich history of producing world-class talent, with Marcus Rashford the best player to come out of the Manchester United academy in recent years. Still, it feels as if there could be a new 'golden generation' on the way.
One of, if not the best, exciting talents that the Red Devils have on their hands right now is youngster Shea Lacey.
The nineteen-year-old has already been given four first-team appearances this season, with his most memorable moment, unfortunately, a red card in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Brighton.
He was incredibly close to getting his first-ever United goal against Burnley in the 2-2 draw in January when the crossbar just denied his beautiful curling effort.
The young winger thrived in Premier League 2 last season, netting 10 in 14 games, and may already be past this level and in need of a new challenge.
Lacey set to stay at United this season
There were a fair few expectations that Lacey would be getting a loan, potentially to the EFL, to give him the first-team experience he needs. However, that doesn't seem to be the case.
It was the United Under-21s manager, Adam Lawrence, who said towards the back end of last season that Lacey had become a fully fledged member of Michael Carrick's first team and was only to be used for games in the youth set-up.
BBC Sport have said that a loan move feels "unlikely", given how highly Lacey is regarded at Old Trafford.
In May, Alan Nixon reported that United were ready to loan out Shea Lacey, with several EFL clubs knocking on the door. However, the stance has clearly changed since then.
Is a loan right for Lacey?
Apart from Jack and Tyler Fletcher, it didn't really feel like many United youngsters were able to break through last season, despite Lacey's handful of appearances.
One of the main reasons for this was that United were knocked out of every competition in the first round and had no European football.
Champions League football is now back at Old Trafford after the resurgence under Carrick, and these added games could see the perfect opportunity for youngsters, especially Lacey, to play.
So if United have a clear plan for how they are going to involve Lacey in the first team and give him the minutes he needs to truly develop, keeping him at the club could be a smart move. Given the fact that Bryan Mbuemo's form cooled off at the end of last season, it could open the door for Lacey even earlier than expected.
